Quick grading question

What would you guys grade a card that otherwise is NM or NM-MT, but on only one corner, it has an indention (almost looks like a slight dog-ear). It is not really bent back, but it is an indention. It is not obvious, but you can see it in the right light and angle. Again, this isn't multiple corners. Just one.

I would say EX+. What say you?

Also, what would one minor corner ding on an otherwise NM or NM-MT bring a card down too? (Pretty much the same question).

(I have several 1959 Fleer Ted Williams that either have the indention or the corner ding on one corner, but are otherwise very nice.)

I have seen such cards graded 7 and 6. Depending on the severity of the corner 'fold'

5 is also a possibility but unless one is speaking of a specific card and the card is in hand (or a pic)

it is hard to give an absolute grade. How is the centering on such a card? The gloss? Any print dots?

Centering varies. Surface is nice. No print dots to speak of.

  • A scan would simplify the question.

    Here are four of them.

  • I imagine the damage looks a little more severe in hand. So, I would guess you are looking at a 6 at best on any of them.

I think I know what you're talking about and it does depend on severity. I've had 7's.
This is only visible on the top of the card, right? It doesn't go through to the other side?

Hammered is right it depends on the severity of the fold, does it break the paper on the front?

Like I mentioned earlier centering will help with the over all appearence.

The cards you show will probably 6. But again they could 5 or 7 too.

I would plan on 6s and be happy with a 7. I think a 5 is too severe a grade for them based on scans.

    Good Luck

I agree with those who say a 6 is likely. I have one in a 6 holder with an "indent" just like that. If the fold is very close or at the tip, it may get a 7. If the fold is far from the tip and crosses close or at the edge of the photo, it may get a 4 or 5. I have one like that as well. I suppose when it's that far out, it's consider a wrinkle or crease perhaps.
