e-bay question

I had a few auctions close Sunday night. These are the first ones I have had since last spring. Of the 6 that closed, 5 still are listed as payment pending. Is it normal for it to take this long?
Thanks
John

    Yes.

    Not appreciated but normal.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    The name is LEE!

When you say pending do you mean that the buyers haven't paid at all or their Paypal payments are pending?

What's normal for one person isn't necessarily normal for another- some people pay right away, some don't. I get payments from buyers as early as minutes after the auction closes up to two weeks later, and everything in between.

I have the same situation with 2 from Sunday that haven't paid. I have another from last night that contacted me today asking for an invoice total and that he either wants to pay with a wire transfer from his bank to mine or with a personal check.

I sent the invoice last night but he informed me today that the email address that Ebay has for him is no good anymore and he gave me his new email address. I told him I wouldn't accept either of those forms of payment and that he needed to update his email address with Ebay and send payment through PayPal. The guys account has 6 feebacks with 1 from 2007 and the other 5 are from 2005 and previous. Needless to say that I'm a little skeptical on this one.

This is the question that needs to be answered.

I can understand your reticence to accept a check, but why would you refuse a wire transfer? There is no risk on your end.

4 of the buyers paid Sunday evening. Pay Pal is still processing their payments. Another buyer paid Sunday and I received conformation that evening. The last buyer paid yesterday and his payment is also still being processed.

Normally if it says "pending payment through Paypal" that means it's an e-check (tied to a bank account); normally it processes right away otherwise (when tied to a card)... Hard to believe that they would all be e-checks. Perhaps the holiday season is slowing them down- though we haven't had any issues. Please let us know how it works out if you would.

As to check vs. wire transfer... I'd take the check. No possibility of them accessing my account that way, and all you need to do with the check is wait until the funds have cleared. You can also call their bank to see if the funds are there for the check to clear.

if an ebayer can access your bank account then your bank is seriously screwed up!!!

I like checks or money orders. I always refused pay pal until e-bay required it.

It takes 4-5 days to process paypal payments into your paypal account when the the buyer is having the funds transferred from their bank account. If the buyer pays through paypal with credit card or with existing funds in his/her paypal account the seller receives immediate payment. On occasion paypal will "review" an immediate payment (usually takes about 24 hours) and advise seller on the paypal item "details" page not to ship until review is completed. These reveiws are to protect sellers and normally occur with large purchases involving fairly new accounts.

Before shipping, you should always look at your payment "details" in paypal to ensure paypals says it is "ok to ship." It doesn't hurt to also ensure seller is "eligible" for paypal seller protection while viewing the same page.
