Crossover Blues

I have had a 67 Mantle SGC 92 for years. I decided to try to cross it over to an 8.5, realizing that I would probably receive the dreaded M/G. It was worse.

1 1 16266172 N1: EVIDENCE OF TRIMMING 1967 TOPPS 150 MICKEY MANTLE Card US

Oh well, at least I left it in the holder, and it is an attractive card. I guess this means I will never have a 100% on my 67 set. I'm not rebuying Mantle.

That does not mean it is definitely trimmed. A complete examination while still in the holder is very difficult, and I'm sure PSA would rather error on the side of caution. Unfortunately that doesn't help your wallet as the fees are still applicable.

Since it is still in it's holder, I would make SGC aware of PSA's assessment, and see what SGC is prepared to do about it, if anything.

Yeah, if they're willing to pay you full value to back up their grade you could just buy one in a PSA holder. Definitely make SGC aware.

Unfortunately, I have to say it again. Does thie service even exist? Not alot of evidence supporting that it exists. How many expensive $500 + type cards get crossed over--not crack outs I'm talking crossovers. I really wish PSA would take some time out and explain this in more depth. If people actually saw some cards get crossed they may use this service more. The only things I see that cross are low grade non expensive stuff. ??????????????

I recently had a 1965 Carlton RC cross over from SGC 92 to PSA 8.5. It's not a $500 card but close. Of course this is just one success story. I'm sure there are others out there but I would say it's much more difficult to get a crossover vs cracking and submitting raw and getting the grade you want.
