Great Mantle auction just closed eBay

My heart is broken. I just lost out on a 1953 Stahl Meyer Mantle (SGC 20) and a 1960 Post Cereal Mantle (SGC Auth.). These cards don't come up for auction often, and I had hoped to pick up one or the other. Several harder to find Mantle were sold, including a 1959 Bazooka in SGC 84. I would provide the links, but I don't know how. The 1953 Stahl Meyer sold for $2,291 and the 1960 Post Cereal sold for $1,043. 1955 Stahl Meyer, 1969 Transogram, 1959 Home Run Derby, all SGC graded also sold.

Always looking for Mantle cards such as Stahl Meyer, 1954 Dan Dee, 1959 Bazooka, 1960 Post, 1952 Star Cal Decal, 1952 Tip Top Bread Labels, 1953-54 Briggs Meat, and other Topps, Bowman, and oddball Mantles.

Sorry to hear but you gotta throw down a larger bid some times.

Then again if a whale wants it you ain't getting it.

    Hopefully you will next time.

  • Don't feel bad - I just saw a card I wanted really, really, really bad and it sold for - $25.00

Times are tough at our house - but we will manage.

Thanks for every one who keeps posting pictures of new acquisitions - it make it worth reading. Enjoy what you have ...

    cheers

Poppa did the 59 bazooka go somewhat cheap? IIRC a few months back someone here had a raw fair (at best)

card and some folks said it was a 500.00 card. Seems to me an SGC 84 for under 2k is a bargain?

Or was it a different year that was valued so high?

    Hi Steve,

It sold for $1850.24, which is a heck of a price for a 7 (nrmt). I'm just wondering if it would crossover to a PSA 7? Only 3 Mantles of the 29 graded by PSA have received numeric grades; the highest is a 5, then there's a 4 and a 1; 26 others only received an Authentic grade. The 59s are an extremely tough issue to achieve numeric grades on since many examples were cut well within the dotted lines. This card only shows a couple areas missing the dotted lines, which is very favorable.

Thanks for the responses. Three thoughts:

    1) To WinPitcher: I did throw down a large bid on the Stahl Meyer. Only the winner outbid me. I wonder how high he would have gone? On the 1960 Post, I didn't think it would go much over $500-600, and my bid was well short.

    2) To The Hun: How right you are!! I have no business saying my heart was broken because I didn't win an expensive card in an auction. I did mean it in jest, however. You are so right that we should all be thankful for what we have been blessed with. Thanks for reminding me.

    3) As for whether the 1959 Bazooka was a bargain or not, I fail to see how a sharply cut PSA/SGC Authentic that is cut just inside the lines is so much less expensive that that SGC 84 that shows quite a bit of lines. I have an SGC Authentic that looks great, but I'm sure it would bring much less that one with a numerical grade.
