British coin orientation question

Looking through a box of coins, I found a 1846 British groat. My Spink shows that the coin has coin orientation between the obverse/reverse, the coin that I have has medal orientation. Is this a mistake by Spink?

FWIW, my 1846 groat is also medal alignment. I looked in my Coincraft and they list the type as being coin aligned also. No notation that the alignment changed through the years.

  • I also have the 1846 Groat. It has two die breaks-one to the left of the one in the date and one through the n in pence. Also the word pence is doubled and Victoria's head is rotated about 15 degrees. Interesting coin to say the least.
