Are the Registrys becoming nothing more than a Marketing Tool for Coin Dealers

I think the Registrys are loosing the appeal they once had.

Now they seam like nothing more than a Marketing plot by all the coin dealers to push their coins.

I've been thinking the same thing for some time now. It seems as though everyone (dealers/sellers) that has any high grade coin whether modern or classic for sale touts it as 'registry quality', etc.....

heck, I need an AU '58LL FE for my set but it isn't quite 'registry quality'.

Are the Registries just a marketing ploy for Dealers? No.

I agree with braddick. It isn't just a marketing ploy used by dealers.I like my collection and love to compare it with some of the finest collections out there.I'm not a dealer and don't intend to sell mine anytime soon,God willing and the creek don't rise.

Most anybody will use any marketing ploy they can to sell their stuff. Nothing really wrong with that, just a fact of life. That is not ALL they have become (the registries), just what is bound to happen.....

I agree with BRdude. They were a marketing ploy all along. So what? I don't begrudge that. I still think it's fun, and a great way to keep an online inventory with photos, if nothing else. As long as I'm having my fun, I have nothing against somebody else making a buck. Win-win, if you ask me. The marketing goes both ways. It's a great way for collectors to market their coins, too, as I think dealers and would-be buyers will pay attention when they hear the word "Registry".
