Wow! I hadn't been following the news. Thank goodness this made the twitter feed. Big congrats and well wishes. I'm sorry to see this happen, in some ways. I hope the new owner takes good care of your collection
Drat! Doug, I was a day late and a few bucks short on that one you offered me from the "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" set. I will be regretting that for a long time. I at least saved the image of it so that I will know if and when I see it again. Somehow though, I 'm inclined to believe that the new owner won't be as open and willing to share the set as you were.
Doug, now that you've raised some cash, how about a MS DMPL black n white date set? The other end of the Morgan spectrum, full blown DMPL's, with no toning. Good luck in future ventures. Show us some of the pieces, scott
I remember that seeing the Sunnywood Morgan set was one of the highlights of my trip to the Long Beach coin show when they were shown off I also saw the Barber Quarter set being displayed at one of the dealer tables at Long Beach on behalf of the set's new owner and that set is amazing too!!!

It doesn't work that way. When you sell a set and get a set premium for it, you can't pick out the best coin and expect anyone to be interested. Believe me, I wanted to do that when I sold a set a while back and Laura jumped down my throat.

This is in no way a criticism of Sunnywood or other collectors seeking the finest known specimens; however, there's much to be said for collecting coins in a grade where you can afford to keep them for a lifetime.

Easy for you to say. Speaking for myself, my crystal ball broke years ago.

Doug, congratulations on your successful sale and for putting together one of the most eye appealing sets of Morgan Dollars ever. I enjoyed viewing them when they were displayed and meeting you as well at one of the shows.
The beauty of Numismatics is the constant evolvement of each individual in the hobby. Always something new to learn and interest to pursue. I am sure after your break you will find a new interest. It has always been that way for me now even as a dealer. Great job!
Good for you Doug! Even though my first reaction was brief flash of saddness, it quickly turned to respect and appreciation. Not only have you succeeded in putting together one of the finest toned Morgan collections, you accomplished a goal. Not to mention that you came out ahead of the game financially ~~ brilliant! And once that goal was complete you accomplished one of life's ultimate feats in "letting go". Change is good (no pun) not to mention inevitable. Knowing when to move on is an admirable trait.
I feel honored that your beautiful 1882-S was my first choice and first attempt in coin painting! And I appreciate immensley the fact that you were willing to allow me access to your large file images for future endeavours. Thank you Doug and good luck to you and your new goals!
Kind regards, Kimberly A. Godinho

He stated earlier in the thread that he would be taking a break

I have to admit, I'm a bit saddened to hear it no longer resides with you...
Good luck on your future collecting endeavors; I'm sure they will continue to be impressive...

We'll not see its like again--unless the new owner is as gracious as Sunnywood.
