Heisman Finalists!

VitoCo1972VitoCo1972 Posts: 6,128 ✭✭✭
Tebow - Florida
Suh - Nebraska
Gerhart - Standord
Ingram - Alabama
McCoy - Texas

What do you guys think? Here's my take.

I think in a perfect world, Suh would win it. He looked like an NFL player playing against Junior College guys on Saturday (against a team going to the National Championship game)

Realistically, that's not going to happen. So I would like to see Ingram win so Alabama can finally have a Heisman winner. He was amazing Saturday too.

What I think will ACTUALLY happen is that Colt McCoy will win because some of the votes were cast before Saturday...but I really hope he doesn't. I think he's clearly not in the top 3 of the finalists.

  • I've seen Spiller play many times (including Saturday night); he should be on that list.

You should hope it goes to McCoy. I don't know the exact numbers but I believe Heisman winners have done very poorly in championship games.

I know I'm in the minority, but did anyone see Gerhart against N.D.? That kid is a beast!!! If he got a bit more exposure I'd think he'd be in the running. I guess I'm picking Ingram for playing hurt and doing what he did to Florida. Plus I think it is time Bama has a Heisman winner as well!

  • I know few share my view, but I think the Heisman should go to the best projected NFL player. I know it is supposed to go to the consensus best college player for that year. However, the college rank now is just a showcase for NFL teams. With few exceptions, how many players stay for the full 4 (or 5 in some cases) years just to get a scholarship when they have a chance to go pro a year earlier?

Personally, I think it tarnishes the rep of the Heisman when a player that has absolutely no chance of success (Chris Weinke, Eric Crouch, Jason White, Troy Smith) in the NFL wins the award.

EDIT: To answer the question, I think Gerhart or Ingram deserve it most.

The scientific name for this is "The Toretta Effect", as pointed out earlier, the Toretta Effect severely hampers one's ability to perform in a national championship game.

    Give it to McCoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want Ingram mad and hungry on Jan. 7th

I think McCoy will win it, and I think he should win it.

Was surprised not to see Spiller as a finalist, that guy is a beast, although I guess if you can only have 5, I'm not sure who I'd kick out of that list.

If we were giving the award to best pro prospect, IMO Jimmy Clausen gets the nod. He will be so much better in the pros than Heisman winners Bradford, Tebow, or McCoy.

I hope Gerhart succeeds in the NFL....it's been too long a time since the last meaningful white RB (was Merril Hoge the last?)
  • It'll be close between McCoy & Suh, but the winner will be McCoy.

Suh is the most dominant player in college football. He should win.

That is ridiculous. I guess Bama fans should be mad from 1988 when Derrick Thomas had 27 sacks and only finished 10th in Heisman voting.
