There's some really great, interesting, and most of all historical coins in this collection.
I began this collection a little over a year ago as a way to broaden my numismatic horizons from my forte' of US Coins.
I had a wonderful time finding these very specifically dated pieces and assembling this collection, not to mention learning all the history behind them.
I would like to sell this collection intact, but will sell pieces individually if there is enough interest.
For now I will just list the individual coins in this collection along with my asking price, but if you really have a keen interest in the entire collection, I would be more than happy to provide images for you.
All coins are raw and dated 1666, unless otherwise noted. The grades I am assigning for each coin are approximately how I feel they would grade at a TPG, although I will try to lean towards being more conservative with my grading.
Asia
China - Cash (Bronze) Kang Xi Tong Boa; KM:303; (Rev. Manchu "Cang" left, Chinese "Ch'ang" right) (RARE). Coin is somewhat worn (VF/EF) with golden brown surfaces, light pitting in recessed areas.
China - Cash (Bronze) Kang Xi Tong Boa; KM: Pn12; (Rev. Manchu and Chinese "Tai") (RARE). Coin has dark brown, reflective, surfaces and is lightly/moderately pitted on each side; displays VF/EF detail.
Armenia - 5 Shahi (Silver) Safavid Armenia, Yeravan Mint; Abbas II (1642-1666). Coin shows decent detail on each side, but is decently worn (Fine detail). There is a small hole, likely used for a necklace or charm.
India - AR Larin (Silver), Bijapur, Karnataka, India. 'Ali' Adil Shah II, 1656-1672. (Dabuli), DM, G-BJ37. (Nicknamed "Fish-hook" money for it's unique shape.) Due to the unusual shape of the piece, it is hard to guage wear and thus a grade; appears to be VF/EF.
Europe
German States - Silesia - 3 Kreuzer (KM: 471). Obv. Lg. Bust right breaks inner circle; Rev. Crowned double eagle, crown divides date. Overall this coin is relatively weakly struck (normal for the issue). Moderate signs of wear, and I would grade it VF+.
German States - Ravensberg - 2 Mariengroschen. Obv. Crowned shield surrounded by MO*NO*EL*BRA*B*L*C*M; Rev. *II* over MARI/GRO (date) in circle, surrounded by S*P*D*COM*M*RA*D*I*N*R. Beautifully even worn surfaces which have toned brown, likely grade in the Mid-VF's.
Austrian States - Olmutz - 3 Kreuzer (KM: 227.1). Obv. small bust right within dotted circle; Rev. large arms in dotted circle. A lustrous, relatively untoned piece, which grades high AU or MS. One of the priced examples in this collection.
Austrian States - Salzburg - 1/9 Talerklippe (Probzst 1506). Very rare Klippe dated 1666, and the only 1/9th denomination I have seen bearing this date. The surfaces have toned a pleasant golden-brown. Three corners are square, and the fourth just has a tiny clip. The coin shows relatively little wear, and would likely grade around EF.
Denmark - Gluckstadt - XVI Skilling (KM:54.1). Bust of Frederik the II right. A rare piece for the date, and especially in the grade this example is in. Evenly worn with light to dark tan surfaces. Decent strike, although exhibiting light weakness in the reverse. Would definitely grade VF.
England - Crown - Large Bust of Charles II right. One of the most numismatically historic pieces of this collection. This issue was struck from a mechanized device rather than being struck by hand. Coin shows signs of circulation down to about the Fine grade. Possibly an old cleaning which has toned the coin to an even grey color. (My favorite coin in the lot).
Poland - 6 Groschen (KM: 91). Obv. Large crowned bust right in circle; Rev. crown above 3 shields. Weakly struck, but also well worn, VG.
Lithuania - Schilling - (KM:50). (3 pieces). Obv. head of Casimir right; Rev. Vytis on horseback. These coins, because they are made of copper, generally are well circulated and highly porous. These examples show moderate signs of circulation and only the faintest signs of porosity. The three examples you will receive range in grade from VF-EF. One is dated 1666, one has an unknown date and is double-struck, and the third is dated 1665.
Liege (Belgium) - 1 Liard (1650-1688; not dated), (KM: 72). Bishopric of Liege in Belgium, Maximilion Heinrich of Bavaria - Prince Bishop of Liege. This piece is struck in copper and is well circulated; would grade around VG (light porosity dots each side).
Spain - 16 Maravedi (contemporary counterfeit). One of the most unusual pieces in this collection in that it is the only contemporary counterfeit I could locate bearing the date 1666 (although probably not the only one known). This piece was struck for and possibly used in the new world (so says the individual who sold it to me). It's hard to gauge how well this piece was struck, and subsequently wear, etc. Details are very good, and decently struck, with moderate signs of wear (possibly indicating short circulation history due to being discoverd as such a counterfeit!). Although not likely to grade, this piece has VF/EF detail.
Now through New Years!
My asking price for the collection is $900 (paid by PayPal, Check, or Money Order).
Price includes insured shipping and a 7-day return policy is you so choose.
Thanks, and if interested PM me
