<< <i>Impossible card from a prominent set of one of the best players ever. I've seen stupider prices. >>
I agree Lee, but I have to wonder...why would someone pay that kind of money for a card after seeing what has happened with the 86 set? Several years ago 10s of Maurice Lucas, Rolando Blackman, Chklist, etc were fetching prices well into the 4 figure range. When everyone started having their 86 sets graded, obviously more 10s came out and the prices plummetted.
Dont you think the same will eventually happen with the 87 set?
Speaking of bad registry inflated prices....I thought this was a pretty bad PSA Registry buy at $78.07... I mean c'mon there's already 27 PSA 10s and it's a modern issue with 21% of submissions coming back at a 10....

There are alot of people collecting the Ryan registry. Even though you're absolutely right about the card not being a tough 10.
I think it's just a matter of convenince. People are trying to complete their registry, and they would rather pay $70-$80 for a 10 rather than busting packs and subbing one themselves.

walton- I'm not saying $5500 for the Bird is justified, but I've sent in at least a couple of that card thinking if it comes back a 10 then I'm getting 5k for it. On the tough 86s, for a while people simply didn't think to grade the commons. I don't think that's the same for a card like an 87 Bird, but I could be wrong. Plus with the Bird, the card is usually riddled with ink splatter which is what makes it so tough. 700 graded and only two 10s means it truly is a tough card. Are there more 10s out there? Sure. Will the price drop as more 10s pop? Definitely.
I wouldn't touch anything in PSA 10 80s basketball with a ten foot poll except maybe super rare regional issues.
<< <i>You'd be better off having Beeks steal the orange crop report for you. >>
If someone can explain how they make money at the end of the movie that would be great - especially when it looks like they are buying back at the end.
Looking for rare Randy Moss rookies and autos, as well as '97 PMG Red Football cards for my set.

i remember making a coulple of those type purchases chasing the bird master set years ago, then i got smart and got out while the getting was good. just couldn't compete with the prices and new additions to the set. now i have a modest master bird set. but i would like to have the $$ back i spent before i got smart. i agree, i would have just bought a PSA 10 bird/magic rookie.
lets see who puts it in their set
anyone here buy it?

Billy Ray and Winthorp shorted the shares of orange juice futures, meaning they sold shares that they didn't own at a given price. When the crop report came back, and it was determined that there would be no shortage of oranges, they simply bought back shares at prices much lower than they had sold them. The sell high, buy low strategy made them so rich that they could have steak and lobster for dinner.
If that doesn't spur a rash of submissions of that card, I don't know what will. As a Basic Bird collector, I've noticed the Pop 1 for the last 2-3 years, I always wondered what a 10 would fetch, figured about $2-3k. I will be interested to see who got it.
Wow! That is all I can say! In 10 years what will that card bring? What does an A.c. green Rc psa 10 bring pete? Like mentioned previous just look at the 1986 Fleer cards!
ha ha, expensive modern garbage of a player/sport only going down hill value wise. How many GemMint raw cards are in unslabbed sets?
I have seen Way stupider buys on eBay, like paying $1K + for a 1960s Topps Common, previously sold in the $1 bin at any show in the 1980-90s era.
Its called "Stupid $$", With a good offer.....He could have got a Game Used Jersey from the same year for the same range in $$. What would be more impressive displayed in your rec room?

Modern Garbage? Thats a bit harsh.. Its not like we're talking 92 Score baseball here. Its high, but not ridiculous for that card, given earlier stated printing problems.
