It's scary to think that he may be right. It's scary to think that he probably is right. But it's even scarier to realize that almost nobody in the country is onto the game being orchestrated by the banks and the politicians.

Here's something to consider. Timmy Geithner was interviewed on CNBC this morning and expressed his support for the dollar and for making the right moves that will help small business and Americans in general. Gag me. He lies through his teeth. He is all for screwing Americans and helping the banks, and only the banks.

He wants to keep the $787 billion or what's left of it and what comes back to the Treasury as it is repaid. It is supposed to be used to reduce the debt, but he wants to "use it".

Jim Bunning - do you remember him? Famous pitcher for the Reds (?) in the early '60, now a Senator. Bunning was the only Senator to vote against the TARP and the only one to vote against Geithner for Treasury Secretary. He followed Geithner on CNBC and he stated that Geithner wants to use the TARP funds as a slush fund for whatever the hell he wants to do. This is correct.

So, are TARP funds going to be used to manipulate the markets, gold and foreign exchange? My guess is "YES".

Jim Bunning pitched for the Dee-troit Tigers! Great pitcher, but the worst batter in the world. I remember the day he hit an inside the park home run, because he was such a bad hitter the right fielder went over to talk to the center fielder when he came up. Blooped one down the line and beat it out. Probably the only home run he ever hit.

Ah, the Detroit Tigers. I couldn't remember, thanks. Pre-Denny McClain, another great pitcher.

Wasn't McClain the last pitcher with an ERA under 2.00?

I don't recall his era. His 31 game winning season in '68 comes to mind though.

more OT stuff. McClain was 31-8 in '68, 1.96, 28 complete games, pitched well over 300 innings, compare that to some of todays prima donna's! Unfortunately his private life was a disaster.

And then McClain went 1-2 in the World Serious. Fortunately, Mickey Lolich saved the day with three wins, the third on two days rest!!!

  • I always thought of Bunning as a Phillie. He pitched a perfect game in 64 and always was up there with Koufax, Gibson, Marichal and Drysdale as one of the top NL pitchers.

When will knowledge of the fake bars hit mainstream America? I'm going to call my senator and request a full scale investigation. image This needs to be confirmed and the criminals brought to justice. Such news would certainly have an impact on the spot price of gold.

    Vida Blue in 1971.

Then there was Jim Palmer in 1972 who was under 2.00 in his final start. With two outs in the 10th inning of a tied game in his final yearly start, Palmer gave up a homer to another Hall of Fame guy -
    Carl Yastrzemski.

I see Gaylord Perry in 1972 did make it under 2.00 as well. That was last year before the DH, so...

Bill Mazeroski, 1960, Game 7, bottom of the ninth, two out, bases loaded - I forget the score.

You are correct, I must have been thinking of the 31 wins.

Jim Bunning definitely was a very good pitcher for both the Tigers and Phillies and he also pitched a perfect game against the Mets in 1964. He did, however, hit seven career homeruns and actually had two in a single year with the Phils. Denny Mclain was the last to have 30 wins in a single major league season and he did so in 1968 for Detroit. A fair number of pitchers have had sub-2.00 ERAs in the time since 1968 and this list would include Tom Seaver (1971), Ron Guidry (1978), Nolan Ryan (1981), Dwight Gooden (1985), Roger Clemons (1990 and 2005) and Greg Maddux (1994 and 1995). There may be others, but this is mostly off the top of my head. Fairly impressive list.

As always I enjoy reading Jim Willie

I recall reading the Sunday newspaper in 1964 with the story of Jim Bunning's perfect game against the Mets. For Mets fans in 1964 when things looked darkest they invariably got darker.
