Interesting article about Steve Ivy and how he built Heritage....

I was taking a look at the Heritage website and saw a link to an article about Steve Ivy, who built Heritage into an international auction powerhouse. I particularly found this quote intriguing:

"The key to striking this kind of success is to constantly be looking and moving your business forward.

“You can’t just sit at home and not read and expect to keep up,” he says.

Ivy subscribes to his competitors’ publications and to all of the trade publications. He also set up Google alerts for anything that he wanted to keep up with. Additionally, he attends trade shows to stay aware, as well. "

In the numismatic dealer world, do any dealers keep track of what their competitors are doing, or is it better to focus on your own business?

    Business is like paddling up-stream...There is always someone there to take your place, so you have to be constantly re-assuring the world that you are worth having around. If you aren't constantly moving forward, then the current will take you backward.
