The problem is that you are now taking things out of the pcgs membership and wanting to charge us members more money in order to get information we used to be able to with just a membership. Taking things from the pcgs membership and then charging us another membership (coin facts) in order to view the same things we used to be able to is clearly upsetting several of your members. It may be time to step back and take a real close look at the feedback you are getting from your members.

To my knowledge, nothing has been taken from membership. Some items that were once free are not.

This could be true, I may have gotten free/membership confused or though one was a membership thing but it was free.
I'm calling my broker in the morning and dumping my CLCT and will divest the funds into Exxon/Mobil and Pepsi- they will be going up a lot faster in the next 6 months than what CLCT has in a year....
bad move IMO, and mebbe DW will be at the show on Friday, I can't make it on Thursday- out of town for a working man to make a few bucks to buy coins...
The prices had always been free from a PO1- thru MS70, now you want us to pay to see the pricing from the 'other grades'. I can get a better ball park at Numismedia in all grades, or CDN.

You have a full service broker? What a waste of money!

It is health that is real wealth, not pieces of gold and silver. Gandhi.
I collect all 20th century series except gold including those series that ended there.
I try to buy PCGS...so I look at their 'prices'....sometimes coins fall into the not listed now prices. I agree now is the time to keep market share or try to increase....not decrease by default...imho.
The PCGS price guide can be somewhat accurate to real prices on frequently traded coins if you multiply them by 60-70% depending on the series. But for the real deal using actual prices realized is the only way to go.
Rather than taking the actual market price and fudging it by a factor of +50%, why not save the collector the trouble of having to multiply by 65% and report the real price that was found? Work would be saved on both ends.
Like Tom Petty once sang, "Let's see if they pay for something that used to be free", or something like that, I don't have the exact words. It's really fun how some folks on here point that out as 'whining', even when put in a civilized manner. There are far too many businesses out there chipping away at providing a service, while charging more and more for what is 'expected' service. I don't expect everything for free, like the grading service, True Views and other stuff. But nickel and diming your loyal customers over parts of a price guide that was free (accurate or not) just comes across as plain cheap and chintzy. Sorry, I'll do what I do with other business that seem to like this practice - I'll just do without. If more people would do this instead of grudgingly pulling out their wallets and continuing to put money on the table for less service, then maybe things would change, and not just here at PCGS.
I have to smile at the sense of entitlement here. Last time I checked, PCGS is the entity that is doing the research, gathering the numbers, paying for the staff, servers, etc. and all those things cost money. When you become a member there is a list of specific services that come with the membership. You know that going in. And last time I checked, there's nothing in the terms that says PCGS doesn't have the right to update, change or modify their site and any other services as they see fit. If you don't like the guide, the site, the forums, or the color of Don's socks, all you need do is stop using said services and/or cancel your membership. CU is a business, folks...and businesses are entitled to charge for their services. I don't see anyone here whining that the Redbook or Greysheet should be free (or at reduced rates because you only use certain sections of them).
Now, that said...I do think that the price guide should be all one thing or all the other. If you're going to charge, charge for the whole thing.
1. I am a member of the Platinum Collector's Club here until the end of the year. 2. I am also a member of a similar club at the competitor's. 3. The "price guide" is included as a member privilege at the competitor's. Not over here for some reason.
For the Platinum Club, I certainly expect to at least get the complete price guide privilege.

I paid for my Collectors Club Membership with the knowledge I would have full access to the Price Guide. Now all of the sudden they take away this! We paid for this service, now expect us to pay more while our memberships are still good?????
In the interest of Customer Satisfaction you could have done this AFTER our paid memberships had to be renewed.
PCGS, do you have ANY decency, seriously... do you have ANY decency toward your customers and members!

MANY of us already fork over $200 a year for a Platinum membership. And they can't throw us a bone with a little fully listed price guide. Not acceptable!!!!! >>

Not necessary; I think it is a testament to our host that they allow dissenting opinions.
IMHO, PCGS is free to do what they wish with their business. They have to remain competitive in the market, but they also have to stay on the leading edge of technology.
These improvements are just that: improvements! They are putting together a tool for collectors to use to get as much information as possible before deciding to make a purchase. It makes perfect sense for them to charge for this service; that is what professionals do. They are entitled to reap the rewards for their labor. These men have spent hundreds of thousands of man hours developing this intellectual property, and no one should begrude them a few dollars of compensation. Actually, you should be very happy that they have decided to share this information at all; let alone for a few dollars a month.
Go to other professionals and ask for their opinion and see what they charge; I can tell you if you want an opinion from me on a survey related problem it will cost you a lot more than $120. Lawyers charge $250 an hour; so called "investment" professional charge high fees as well. I have seen subscriptions to investment news letters that sell for upwards of $300 per year, and they offer no guaranty at all.
I think this tool will become indispensable in any collector's arsenal.
PS: Please pass the kool-aid I just emptied my glass.

Well stated...but bear in mind that some (but fortunately, not all) of those reading this also feel that not only should PCGS' services be free, but that coin dealers shouldn't make a profit either; we should all just be happy that they grace us with their presence, and we should be overjoyed to promote the hobby by giving things away (or at a minimum, offering at a steep discount) that we worked to create or acquire.
Evidently PCGS should be happy they even dain to use these boards (which I also see occasional complaints about).
(PS...Just curious...how many people here work for free just because they're happy to promote the service/business/company/ etc.? Anyone? Anyone?)

1. If you want to hear some real whining, take away something that was previously free and charge for it.
2. People will complain about something being taken away, even if they never used it.
