Question for all the RC card experts

Hi. I am a younger collector who is learning more and more about the hobby and d had a question for anybody who might know. Based on the threads here of Mike and some of the other experts, I've been trying to collect more rookie cards. I know the 1951 Bowman is Mantle's and some card I'll never be able to get from 1914 is Babe Ruth's. My question is what cards are considered Lou Gehrigs, yogi Berras, Joe DiMaggio and Bob Feller's?

Hi Lou Gehrig is a 1925 exibit, IMO.

Feller and Berra are in the 48 Bowman set

DiMaggio I believe is in a 35 PCL Zeenut set, or the 36 Goudey.

Of course others may claim differently but off the top of my head......

    Edited to add:

Feller has a 1937 OPC card. I guess it could be considered the rookie.

    Good for you.

I think most people consider Bob Feller's rookie card to be the 1938 Goudey, although he was also on a 1937 Exhibit, and in the 1937 O-Pee-Chee set.

Joe DiMaggio was also in the 1938 Goudey set. Prior to that, he was in the 1937 O-Pee-Chee, 1937 Exhibits and 1937 Wheaties sets.

While Yogi Berra's accepted rookie card is the 1948 Bowman, he was in the 1947 Homogenized Bond Bread set, as well as the 1947 Tip Top set.

Lou Gehrig's rookie card is a 1925 Exhibit.

Your going to hear many different explanations of a "rookie card"

IMO 1st card as a Major Leaguer

But a rookie card is not always the best card or most desirable card. IMO the players "First card" (in many cases a Minor League regional issue) is by far the best.

    Off top of my head.......

    DiMaggio
1st card 1933 V137-20 Zeenut (2 different poses issued over 3 year span but only cards with the coupon still attached can possitivly be pinpointed to 1933)
rookie card 1936 V355 World Wide Gum
Best card IMO 1935 Pebble Beach Clothiers

    Gehrig
1st card and rookie 1925 Exhibit Supply Co.
(some will also say W590, but these were issued over a 4-6 year span so are unlikely to really be from 1925)

    Feller
1st card and rookie 1937 R314C Canadian Wide Pen (aka creamy wide pen)

    Berra
1st card and rookie 1947 Tip Top Bread and 1947 Homogenized Bond Bread (only cards with diecut rounded corners are from 1947)

    Mantle
1st card and rookie 1951 Bowman and 1951 Wheaties Test Issue

    Musial
1st and rookie 1946 Sears and 1946/47 Propagandas Montiel

    JRobinson
1st card and rookie 1947 Bond Bread (many different), 1947 Homogenzed Bond Bread (diecut corners only)

    Paige
1st card and rookie 1949 Exhibit Supply Co. (must say "An Exhibit Card" in bottom corner.... variation issued only in 1949), 1949 Leaf, 1949 Bowman, etc.
