Any Suggestions for Dealing with a non or slow eBay payer

I have an eBay auction that ended 9 days ago with still no payment from the winner. I have emailed him the original invoice and followed up with two reminders...still no response. But here's the kicker. The guy has over 9000 poisitive feedbacks with a 100% rating. In checking his history, he has recent positive feedbacks from several auctions he won about the same time (within a day) as mine. I am not opposed to dropping a negative on him if there is no response after a few more reminders and following eBay communications and protocol, but it just seems unlikely a guy with such a sterling record would ignor my communications and not pay. Even if he is on vacation you would think he might check his email and "My Ebay". There must be some circumstances in this case I don't know about. Any suggestions.

You don't sell on eBay much, do you?

Open the NPB process now. He'll probably pay you tomorrow

I am sure he'll pay. Give it another week and then going NPB. No negatives anymore. Sorry.

Actually nam812, I have probably had over 2000 ebay sales, all sportscards. I have never had a buyer continually ignor emails/reminders and if, as in one case, a buyer simply said he made a mistake in bidding and didn't want the card anymore, I'm OK as long as we go through the process of getting my eBay charges removed. I'm not big on negatives and up to now I've only used a couple on sellers who never sent the items I paid for. Perhaps you are implying that patience is a virtue with some buyers because of your experience with slow payers. If that is not unusual than its good advice. It just is very unusual from my selling experience. I've had a few buyers at least respond to my reminders that they will pay after their next paycheck arrives and I'm good with that since they at least communicated. I will say that I'm certainly willing to give this buyer time and the benefit of the doubt because his great feedback record. But if this goes on with no response I will take zep33's advice and open a NPB process. Maybe that will be an email he reads.

Sellers are not allowed to leave NEGs for buyers.

After 4-days of non-payment, a seller can file a NPB
    against a "buyer."

You can either be patient, or you can file a NPB.

If you want to get paid fast, you might consider using BINs
    with Immediate Payment Required.

Now I consider myself educated. I had completely forgotten about the changes eBay imposed on negative feedbacks. Guess I have just never had to deal with it as a seller. Thanks storm888 and also nam812 for the reminder. I will follow your suggestions and be patient for awhile before filing the NPB. I am just adjitated that a very credible eBay buyer moves so slowly and doesn't communicate.
  • Hi Rich,

I always give my buyers the benefit of the doubt when it comes to payment. Sometimes people (buyers) have personal and/or family emergencies including car accidents, sicknesses, deaths etc.

Sure there are always going to be a few buyers that just don't care about paying promptly, but I find that they are far and few between.

I sell high end merchandise and have had only a handful or late payers in over 10 years on the bay. One of them took 2 months to pay. Turns out he was hospitalized. He finally contacted me after 3 weeks and apologized for the late payment. He's turned out to be one of my top repeat buyers.

I'm NOT saying that your buyer IS one of the few lackadaisicals, only that you might consider waiting a bit longer to give him/her the benefit of the doubt.

I think you should wait a little longer before taking these measures:

Gosh Dboneesq, I don't appreciate the lack of response from the buyer but those measures are a bit harsh! I will indeed wait and be patient as most of you had suggested.

HAHA ... no, I am the same as you ... it pisses me off when I send numerous emails and a buyer does not respond ... HOWEVER, as others have stated, the buyer may have had some type of emergency. I'd give him the benefit of the doubt at this time.
