Ike Specialists.... is this one worthy of a slabbin?

I have a hard time grading these above a 65.... this is a 1976 D Ty2. Thanks Tom

Nice luster though.
I wouldn't think it was worth grading.

The coin, although nice, might grade out at an MS65 and the MS66 versions of this coin are only about $90.

It looks like a mint set coin. I think if you looked at about 40 1976 mint sets you'd find a nicer one.

Although this is highly possible, a lot of the mint sets have been picked over. Out of the many that I have looked at (and I'm always looking

I vote in the ms64-65 range as well
not sure your definition of 'worthy of slabbin?'
can probably buy one on eBay for slabbin costs
<< <i>how can you grade a coin through the wrinkled mint cellophane? >>
If you look at enough of them its not really that difficult.
Most have severe chicken scratching near the edges which basically are annealing marks not taken out by the weak strike.
Annealing marks are killers for the IKE coins plain and simple although a certain amount of luster can diminish their effects.
The cheek area is another typical area for annealing marks and some are simply to large to ignore, luster or not. Had they dialed up the pressure just a smidge more, then the coins produced would have been of much better quality and the set itself more acceptable.
