Does ANACS email/notify you of grades....

....when they are available, like our host does? I sent in a few DCarr medals (a Grabener press '25', and both Denver Mint commem medals), and was only notified they were shipped back...but FedEx notified me! I access my orders on tha ANACS site, yet no orders are shown. These are supposed to be numerically graded (according to a conversation I had with a CS rep). I will admit, it's the first time using ANACS, but they are the only ones to grade DCarr's creations (not to mention the cool labels for his stuff).
I'll come up with something.

Honestly, they were freebies, and I had them tucked away. The 'Unc' version of the Denver Mint medal has a mintage of 50, and the 'proof' version of it has a mintage of 150. They are really nice looking designs...and with a numerical grade, the special DCarr 'Moonlight Mint' cert, a 'real' slab (well, they AREN'T a third world grading company.....yet), I felt the need to use the freebies on the medals (seeing I wouldn't send in a real coin to them, no offense to those who use them). Besides, they won't be 'pumpkin orange' or blue (silver or grey, I believe), so I can deal with them in ANACS slabs.

Yes, you should see your order status and grades if they're done if you log into your account.
They don't email the grades, you must log in and check.

Have done the log-in thing, and shows no orders. I believe they show orders from the last 90 days. Is it possible they just aren't available right now? They did, afterall, send the package yesterday, so perhaps the results haven't been updated yet, what with the holiday. Possibility???

For me the grades showed up by the time they shipped.

Maybe the holiday or maybe somehow it didn't get linked to your same account.

<< <i>At first i asked myself why would anyone even think of using them, then i continued to read your post and learned why you think that you have to. I am assuming you will be selling these and feel that they should be holdered by a tpg, but imho a plain plastic holder with your own label would be just as good without the wait or questions. >>

I can't believe anyone would really think that. I know people think this and that about TPGS, but when you equate ANACS with a self-slabber you're showing your own foolishness!

I have looked at alot of properly graded ANACS coins, I especially like there old small holder Morgans. I have no problem with them. I will say that PCGS graded coins do bring more money in certain series.

  • I never look at the online grades....I like the suspense of looking at the graded coins in hand.....Guess I'm just weird that way

last time i used ANACS I paid for the fax service. I got a fax 2 days after I recieved the coins back from anacs.
  • My last submission, about a month or so ago, I got the coins back fedex before the grades were posted. I didn't have a problem with that because I would rather open the package with anticipation.

    I happen to agree.

Now if you want to slam one of the true basement TPG services........ be my guest! image

I agree, they have their niche and credibility for what they are.
For me if it's a coin where I want a variety listed that PCGS won't list that's a good reason.
If it's a coin where the grade and resale is the key or PCGS will list the variety then PCGS is my choice.

GrumpyEd has put it in it's proper perspective.

There were only two reasons I used them (and I have only used ANACS once before, 10 years ago, as they were more 'lenient' on early coinage...specifically an 1802/1 $, which VF'ed at ANACS, quite probably would have bagged at our hosts or ATS).

    Reason 1)
They were freebies (like 19Lyds, I jumped on the HSN Lincoln cent promo early on, as they really were the first ones to promote the Log Cabin cents.... 2 MS67's, 1 P&D MS65 roll, and 2 ANACS grading freebies for each issue...8 total grading freebies..not bad for those certain varieties that only ANACS slabs, like Ike varieties, the bajillion '09 Lincoln DDR's and DDO's)

    Reason 2)
They grade DCarr's creations (where noone else does), and for his items, they have a special insert, which looks a hell of alot nicer than the blue or pumpkin inserts.

The Denver Mint centennial medals I have (which can be seen here ) should be in plastic, but 'self slabbing' them would not have looked anywhere near as good as the ANACS slabs with that 'Moonlight Mint' insert. The Denver mint commems he made are tremendous, mostly due to the hard work he put into them (govt employees thought he was going to pull another 9/11 with the time spent casing/photographing the joint....I believe he was escorted off the premises, had his camera confiscated, something along those lines...please feel free to correct me). The U.S. Mint should have done these commems for the Denver Mint's 100th anniversary, but DCarr's medals were better than anything the U.S. Mint could have come up with anyway (as are most of his creations).

Given the quality of these medals (they really are very attractive pieces), all of DCarr's hard work, coupled with the extremely minute mintage of them (I purchased these in silver only, with the silver 'proof' medal having a total/final mintage of only 150 pieces, while the silver 'unc' medal has a total/final mintage of merely 50 pieces), I felt these deserved to be in something more than just the capsule they came in, and should be presented in something nicer than a simple Coin World 'slab'. When I read in a thread that ANACS was slabbing DCarr's work, and saw the classy inserts for his items, it was a 'no brainer' to put these in real slabs (funny, the insert for Moonlight Mint products makes their regular inserts look like rejected NNC, SGS, or NTC inserts). I also sent in one of his Grabener Press medals, along with a few items (non DCarr items) which will subsequently go to our host for crossover (nothing big ticket, just things that are best served being crossed, rather than being sent in raw....even if they proved to be not authentic, my only cost would be a minimal amount in postage, instead of paying an additional, non-refundable grading fee only to get the dreaded body-bag).

While many here believe the 'new' ANACS has taken a major turn for the worse (myself included), older ANACS graded coins can be a great source for properly graded coins for short $$ , and the more people that knock their earlier graded material due to their current state of flux, means possibly more nice coins in their early slabs are overlooked (I really like the small white slabs...the old ANA, and the ANACS slabs, not to mention the photo-certs..... just ask relicsncoins what HE thinks of those photo-certs!).

If it weren't for them slabbing things like DCarrs items, certain varieties that the other TPG's don't recognize yet, the bajillion '09 Lincoln DDO's and DDR's the collecting community has been inundated with, and their mass-producing MS70's/PR70's for HSN and whatever other TV coin show's they supply, they could quite well be in more trouble than they are now.

Besides, how seriously can you take a company that has no submission number on their submission form?
    I'll come up with something.
