Unhappy UK customer. Anybody seen this?

I sent a few coins to the UK and shipped by USPS priority mail and they charged him 8 pounds (about $15 US) for a "Royal Mail International Handling Fee" which when he inquired they told him was actually postage due because they didn't recognize the postage label that I printed off of Paypal Shipping as valid postage. Here is a scan he sent me of my shipping label and the sticker they put on it. I'm sure I'm not the only one every to use paypal shipping to ship to the UK.

That's very interesting. I always thought that the only people that needed to recognize the shipping label were in the country of origin. I guess not. This should be an interesting thread.

I don't think I've ever sent that label to to the UK (tons of first class and registered). My guess is they want to see the actual amount paid, which it looks like you've hidden from the label. Perhaps you can get a PP receipt showing the label number and amount paid for postage. In the future, I'd just leave the postage cost on the envelope.

Also, it's weird to think that they're trying to collect more than the full postage ($12.30) on the package...

Thanks for sharing. I guess if I was going to ship anything out of the US, I would now go stand in line and have someone at the counter help me.

  • Was this package mailed Priority Mail or Global Priority Mail? Regular USPS Priority is just for US delivery while Global Priority is for international mail. Global priority is more expensive depending on what is the destination country.

Thanks guys. Yes, it was shipped at the international rate.

I think Jeremy may have hit upon it. I have the postage value hidden as a default for various reasons. Perhaps on intl shipments I should unhide it.

I'll find a receipt for the shipping and send that to him to see if that helps.
