My first pictures ever

I'm not a photographer at all. But my wife left her camera sitting next to the computer, so I figured why not? A couple of new purchases from the Bay State show. Not the best pictures, but they're not completely repulsive either:

Not bad. Need a little better focus. Did you have a tripod/copy stand?

DarkStar: Your taste in coins is excellent. I really like the Large Cent. Great strike, luster and preservation state. She looks like a full red to me. image

Now we have to improve your photography skills so that you can share those pretty coins with us!! image

I agree all around! Not bad for first pics and that looks like an excellent large cent.
  • Love that large cent. Nice surfaces. Nicely struck.

Sure, it starts out with just grabbing the wife's camera on a whim, but soon you'll want your own camera -- a dSLR no doubt, a copy stand, some good lights, a good macro lens, a larger monitor for your computer, tethering software, the latest Photoshop, a bigger hard drive, a new PC with a faster processor so you don't have to wait so long to process camera raw images, a graphics card that can drive two DVI monitors, a second large monitor, a better macro lens, a bellows...

That said, nice start. Work on the basics -- focus, stability, exposure (pics are a little too dark), white balance (a simple setting), and lighting.

Good basic skills will out weigh any muck-muck equiptment.
I do like that LC! image

I really like that large cent!
  • For first pics, these are excellent, though the ensuing discussion produced some interesting info. They were obviously good enough for everyone to appreciate your eye for coins, as manifested in the comments on the LC.
