What is a fair price to ask on MS US platinum sets?

bidaskbidask Posts: 14,017 ✭✭✭✭✭
I own the 1998, 1999, 2001, and 2002 ms platinum sets, not proof,...about 1.85 oz. In each set.

What is a fair price to ask because I want to sell.

They are in oriiginal brown wood boxes.

Thanks

Say what? Original wood boxes? I didn't know they did that.

I don't have any data on Unc 4-coin sets for those dates. I have some data on individual coins. These are ungraded, correct?

My best estimate for the 1/4's if they are PCGS MS-69 quality is $375 to $410 each for the 99,01, and 02. I would be guessing on the 98, but it's probably similar.

I have no data on the 1/10ths.

The 1/2s in PCGS MS-69 would be between $750 and $800 as close as I can tell.

I don't have data that would be meaningful for the 1 oz. '98 or '99, but my guess on the '01 is $1,900 to $1,950 and the '02 from $1,700 to $1,800. I would probably put the '98 and the '99 in the same range.

That's all ebay data, and it is sparse.

Ungraded coins would be a bit less, but with platinum not a bunch less.

Just looking at some data here. I was recently offered a raw 2000-W Platinum Proof 4-Coin Set for $3,350.00 by a reputable dealer, (which I did not buy).

The most recent ebay transactions for this set (most recent first) are:

    $3,070.00
    $3,272.00
    $3,325.00

I would consider this set to be somewhat comparable to the '98, '99, '01 and '02 - sort of in the same category.

The data suggest about $300 in price variations and a weakening price trend, which I do not believe.

However, here is a current auction that you might want to track:

2000-W Platinum Proof 4-Coin Set..........$3,300.00 and counting/11 bids so far.........

The Plat market is thin, but it's also not doing so badly..........

Were the wooden boxes actually from the US mint?
