My english homework tonight was to write a poem

that started with the words "I see the..." and ended with "and I will tell about it."
So I decided to make it numismatic. The title is "California in 1850"
I see the haggard faces
And bright new ones in the mix
Empty pockets and some full ones
Soon empty from merchants’ tricks
Money flowing like water
Like the water from whence the gold came
Fine grains to heavy flakes
Twenty ounce nuggets bet on a single game
The banks so full of wealth
Coin stacked in piles deep
Ingots labeled “Moffat” and “Baldwin”
What profits these banks did reap
The harbor full of ghosts
These sailors abandoned fast
Off to the promising goldfields
Before the golden chance has past
And once at the broad sand bars
The American, Yuba and more
They rocked their rockers and panned their pans
Transforming people to national lore
These miners, many did struggle
Indeed, many did quit
To chase a dream and live a story
And I will tell about it

<< <i>Sounds like Robert W. Service.
The Trail of '98 is one of my all-time favorite books.
"I see the cat. And I will tell about it."
<< <i>I wonder how many folks will submit something like:
"I see the cat. And I will tell about it." >>
Probably the same number that fail the class
