Completed a milestone on my quest for a complete set of Mercury Dimes in PCGS rattler holders today!

I started assembling my Mercury Set 3 years ago and today I completed a milestone by adding a 1936-D MS65FB. The Late Date Set (in rattlers) is now complete. I won't ever be #1 but I'm pretty sure it's the only 100% complete in rattler holders!

Now I just need the other 27 coins to complete the series.

I remembered when you anounced that you were going to start collecting these.
I said to myself, "it will be a long shot if he complete's even the short-set".

Well, you've done it, and above all completed it in a relativelt short period of time.
Very much congrats to your Millertime, and good luck on your final 27 coins image

  • It has been a fun set. There's a lot of tough dates left but we'll see what happens.

    Wow.

I hadn't heard of your quest. Coinsider me quite impressed.

(Whoops. Hey, like that typo? "coinsider"? I do it all the time.)

Just the short set is an accomplishment. Before clicking the link, I thought that was all you had. I see now you've made considerable (coinsiderable) progress towards the "whole enchilada"!

    Impressive! image

You should crack those out and send them in for upgrades!

Your Rattler set is better than any #1 registry

This is a really cool set, and was an inspiration for me to start my 50 piece commem set in rattlers. When the coins are placed in one of the old rattler boxes, it just has a certain cachet (a Longacre wordimage ) about it.

Now, the question is - will the early key dates like the famous 16-D be mint state in rattlers too - or will a lowley VF coin do?

Again, congrats on the completion of the later date set!

I started with the goal of grade didn't matter but it has just so happened that all I've been able to find is MS dimes. If the '16-D comes along in MS there's is absolutely nothing I can do about it and will have to let it go image because I just don't have that kind of cash available. I think I've only passed on two or three coins along the way, one was an upgrade that was a couple of thousand and another was an early date I needed but it was about 4k.

Looks like you're 50% complete on your rattlers. Yours is also a very cool set and someday I would like to complete a commem set but not in rattlers.

Thanks everyone else for your comments.

    Congratulations!

    Really cool set.

Are you going to try to expand it? Go into 1931 and beyond?

of course, 1932 and 1933 is a freebie. image

I'm impressed. Well done. I would like to do the same thing with Washingtons...but I don't think I have the drive that you have. I just pick them up when they come along, which isn't all the time.
