Mint news blog claims 2008W to be lowest mintage W eagle

436,702 minus whatever amount the 08/07 error, ( approximately 46,000 if you believe the US Mint), leaves us at under 400,000 mintage.

This should make the prices rise rather quickly on these.

  • Being the lowest by 10-15% in a 3 year run of coins isn't going to move the world too much.

I'm 99% certain that 436,000 number does not include the 86,000+ (and still on sale) '08-w ASE's that are included in the unc. silver dollar set. That means it is not the lowest mintage.

Mintage includes all coins minted.....packaging makes no difference.

2006 W mintage includes those packaged in the 20th Anniversary set and the 2007 W mintage includes those packaged in the dollar set from that year

How do we know for sure whether that includes the unc. dollar set? In the past this # has always been broken out separately.

Well for starters, the blog say "mintage" and not "sales".

"2008 could be a very good year for 2008-W SAE's folks.

The Mint News blog reported that only 436,702 2008-W SAE's were coined. Take away the 46,318 Reverse of 07 SAE's and that only leaves you with 390,384 regular coins!
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

That is the way I understand it too.
  • Correct on the usage of sales vs. mintage...(see 2006/2007 comparison for set sales included in mintage numbers )

"Sales" of the dollar set include the W with a "mintage" of 436k or so

Ok....lets make the numbers smaller....free standing W's not in sets and not the 08/07 variety = 304k (436,700-46,318-86,000)

Maybe I should order some more of the dollar sets while they are still available

  • I can't find where the 2008 annual uncirculated dollar sets are still for sale.........

You can still pick up some of the 2008 W's pretty cheap on the bay but I don't know for how much longer.

I have a whole pile of these things along with about 10 of the 2008 Unc Dollar sets with the ASE in them. I was going to melt them when silver got above $22 an ounce. Maybe I'll keep them for a bit.

Unless you want the presidential dollars it is cheaper at this point to buy just the eagles on ebay.
  • I only opened one of my 20 dollar sets....I sure hope there are no 08/07's hiding in there.........

Maybe I'll open a couple more image

Wouldn't it make your day to find the 1st/only set with the variety

There has to be a lot more of these 08/07's hiding somewhere as the sure have not all surfaced.
