This is your chance to tell MrEureka where to go!

I need to earn 3000 more frequent miles before year end. Please suggest a coin show or auction or numismatic museum destination. I already have Dallas and London covered, so it will have to be somewhere else. And it needs to be at least 1500 miles from New York. Thanks!

If you take me with you I can give you a tour of Chiangrai Province, Thailand. No coins but plenty of poppy fields. Just don't wear green.

There is a disgraced ex Minister of Finance in Oshogbo, Nigeria who wants me to transfer $3,250,000 to my bank account in the US. He was going to split the cash with me, but I am sure he'll split it 3 ways if you fly over and pick it up for us. Oshogbo is nice this time of year!

Shall I tell him you are coming over?

How about Barcelona for the Aureo auction?

I'll even give you a few commissions to help offset the cost.

How about Barcelona for the Aureo auction?

That's the best sale I know of, but I'm hesitating to book the trip because I've already been there twice this year. A third time would seem too much like work. Anyway, I'll decide in the next day or two, and I may take you up on the offer to help defray my expenses!

  • My invite to FUN is still open (will you get the miles by booking before 12/31 or do you have to fly by then?).

I thought about suggesting FUN as well, but I didn't know if you had already plans for that or if it being just after New Years posed a problem.

I used to be a regular FUN atendee but with tight times financially I dunno if I will go this year or not.

Flights need to be completed by year end. Besides, NYINC is more fun than FUN, and they're the same week.

There are no public tours of the Casa de Moneda de Mexico, either at the main production plant in San Luis Potosi or any of the older facilities in Legaria or Apartado. Occasionally the Sociedad Numismatica de Mexico arranges a floor tour to one of the facilities in conjunction with one of their conventions. This is similar to what the ANA does when the summer convention is held in Denver or Philadelphia.

A floor tour of any mint is great fun if you can attend!

If you go to Sao Paulo, you could visit the Itau Bank numismatic museum -- lots of extremely rare Brazilian pieces. And there also are a few great restaurants and nightclubs for when you're not looking at coins. Plus, it's summer in December down there.
  • Okay Boychik, here's one for you...

My wife and son will be in Bolivia from 12/6-21. How about a couple of days in Puerto Rico or the Dominican Republic. I haven't been on the golf course in some time and am long overdue for 18 holes. We can also find some numismatic sites along the way. Besides, all work and no play makes... you know the rest. Whaddaya think?

I think you're psychic. I booked flights to San Juan last night. I'll be there Dec 4-6. Come on down! But be forewarned that you do not want to go golfing with me. It would be the longest 18 holes of your life.

They won't be leaving until the 6th. Why don't you stay a few extra days and it's a deal otherwise, you could make a stop in SFL on your return and I could take you out for a great sushi dinner (and of course, talk COINS)!

I saw on another thread that there is a coin shop somewhere in Alaska. Perhaps they need a "Coin Shop Report" posted on the board...

Thanks for the offer, but my flights are non-stop. However, I may still make a last minute trip to Barcelona. If I do, and if you care to meet me there, I recommend the "paella y tres cervezas", and it's on me!

I'm there right now --- San Jose, that is, not the Gold Museum. Flew in this afternoon, had a nice lunch, had a nice nap, and now I'm ready to hit the town. I look forward to touring the museum tomorrow. I visited once, but it was [cough] years ago.

Denis, I hope you post about your experience there. I heard from a resident that the crime in the city is WAY up lately. Be careful and bring back some nice books!

Gracias, Esteban. Things have seemed safe so far. I was talking to an employee at a joyeria (jewelry store) this afternoon, and he didn't say there were more thefts than usual, but he did ask us to move away from the door while examining a tray --- a crime of opportunity would be very hard to prevent. (Kind of a smash-and-grab without the "smashing"... run in from the sidewalk, push the customer, grab the exposed tray of merchandise, and run out with it.) This was in a busy commercial district of San Jose.

Crime is a subject brought up in the political ads on the radio.

    I'm taking normal big-city precautions.
