Any one fancy a Jefferson Nickel Thread?

At one point I was putting a set of these together and I found it quite easy to get nice high grade examples of most coins for relatively cheap prices as long as you aren't a slave to steps. This is a recent purchase and while I thought I was buying a 5 Step example at the time....it quickly didn't matter once I saw the toning and pop that this coin exhibited. I know there are others that collect these 5 centers so post them if you got them image

p.s. This one appears to have a nice die crack on the reverse....I know planchet flaws and lamination errors aren't uncommon on nickels but I thought it was still neet to see.

  • Love the toning, Jefferson sets are not to pricey and you can put together a super nice set!

I have some nice ones and sold some as well - used to have this one

do you think that is a die crack, lamination error, or staining from previous holder?
I had one recently PCGS put in Genuine slab because of lamination image

I can;t wait until this one starts getting red around the edges

  • On the obverse it's probably a streak of grease or something....on the reverse I see what looks like a poteitial die crack that leads to what appears to be the start of a lamination but without further magnification I can't tell for sure.

    yes, the reverse die crack

was questioning your thoughts ont eh obverse
    from 10 - 6 o'clock

just a planchet streak of grease possibly?

that is a beautiful coin, can spend a long time rotating and watching colors change

I have a BU set that is currently sitting in a Dansco........'38 to '84 IIRC.
I bought them as a set in '85, boring but I had some money I needed to spend. image
I liked them so much I bought a few slabbed examples.

I have posted this one before so if you know the answer please do not give it away.

    FS or no FS?

  • Very nice 43 Krypton. Love the colors. I have put together a set of War nickles and am now one coin (1939) from completing the proofs ( 38-64) , I dont give a hoot about full steps either.

I just love the things. Right now is still a pretty good time to collect them, too.

Steps on an 82-P I found in a group of private-party 82 P/D "mint sets" I snatched up for around 5 bucks each at an antique place a few years back. Slabbed PCGS MS65FS.
