What do you think of out of state sellers collecting sales tax on Ebay?

I recently looked at a non-coin item and under the payment section, the seller listed about 15 states for which he will collect sales tax. This is an individual seller and not a company with a presence in all those states. Is it just a way for a seller to collect more money, or do you think he really submits sales tax revenues to all those states? I emailed him a question asking why he collects the sales tax and got no reply. That could be my answer right there...

A seller can charge whatever he wants. He can add a handling fee if he wants. But to pretend to be collecting taxes when he is not paying them sounds like a good way to get in deep trouble. "Hi, I'm the tax collector. You owe me tax". NOT!

Now if he is sending in taxes to all those states, then I'm sure they appreciate it.
