I don't know who pics the designs and I don't know how much influence they get from the whitehouse. There are exuberant supporters of Obama, and radical "diversity" proponents out there in many parts of the govt. It is clear one of them had a strong influence on the design of this coin. We've seen this celebration of Obama's election in other locations and whether you support Obama or not, it should be expected that there will be some celebration by the supporters. It will quickly wane unless something new comes along to spur it on. While I can't recall the historical references right now I'm sure we've seen the govt acting a little "weird" on things like this after previous "firsts".

Yes the underground gubmint libral cabal knew in august 2008 that Acorn would throw the presidential election and they snuck in this design -devious! I think Glen Beck explained the whole scheme using his chalkboard a few weeks ago.
  • I thought the design was chosen yesterday. They could have chosen something more attractive to most of the people they expect to buy the coin.

Heres the article in Numismatic News -the design choice was also discussed in Eric's modern thread 8-2008 http://numismaster.com/ta/numis/Article.jsp?ad=article&ArticleId=5047

Politics aside, I thought the previous platinum reverse wasn't that attractive, the gold reverse is much more interesting IMHO. Anyhow, a coin called an eagle should at least have the eagle incorporated into the actual design instead of as an add on:

The eagle head here looks like the Phila. Eagles logo ... and worse than the eagle on the Franklin reverse.

I am going out on a limb and saying it will be the knew low pop king for all denom's. Design is very boring and blah!
If I say something in the woods, and my wife isn't around. Am I still wrong?
  • I'm really not bothered by the political affiliations of the people selecting the designs. They should put all that away. One issue with this coin, as has been pointed out, it's not representative of everyone, so why bother in the first place? There are plenty of symbols of America that could be used.

I love the odious, hideous, gubmint librul cabal. Their excellent design is compelling me to become a first time platinum buyer. If the rest of the designs live up to this one, I'll get to read fun and informative threads like this one. Except this isn't either of those things. Maybe I could special order some with Captain Picard on them, too.

Edited to say odious again. Odious.
