My first die crack barber half - *large pic*

Here's my first possible die crack barber half. I have never seen a die crack on barb halves. Check out the lines around the stars and the bottom of the neck.

All opinions welcome!

Neat die crack, first I've seen on a Barber half as well.

  • Looks like it's cracked from the first star all the way through to the seventh and continuing
to the neck. Another set between the 10th and 12th star. Send it back to the mint with a

Very clean looking nicely toned coin. I like the dark areas around the stars.

Great Barber half. The 1900-S is the best known year (well, for a few Barber collectors anyway) for its advanced die-cracks. I saw that coin on Ebay and even with the puny scan, could make out the die-cracks on the neck bust. That is the first thing I look for on that date. It is the only Barber half date to so consistently be seen with die cracks, and no other date (that I have seen or read about) has as advanced and as large of die cracks as that date.

The scans are not as big, but you can still see the die cracks on my example. They snake through the coin's stars just like yours. Welcome to the club!

I have seen a few barbers with die cracks, but I believe the 00-S may be the most plentiful. A very rare coin that often has die cracks is the 92-O micro O, typically through the date and adjacent few stars. My example in MS65 has it, and I believe I have only seen one (higher grades) without (the Duckor coin). Neat to find such striking die cracks.
