If I have scratches or "schmutz" on a PCGS or NGC holder, can I just send them back to the respective service and pay for them to be broken out and reslabbed?
If so, is the fee lower than the usual full grading fee?

You could do that and waste your money or you could buy Slab ReNew
Collector of Modern Sprockets!
Don't hate on Moderns. Your Kids and Grandkids are going to pay out the A$$ for them when they're your age!
1. If you created the scratches yourself, then don't bother reslabbing until you plan to sell. The reason is that you will most likely continue to rescratch the slab. 2. If you're a careful person and bought the slab already scratched, I would most likely pay for reholdering.
But to answer your question, yes, the grading services do have that option, and it's roughly $10 + shipping.
All my slabs are scratched after countless hours of looking at them and carrying them around in my pocket.
And with a straight face, you're asking guys who claim to see/know the difference between a 69 and a 70 about anality??????????
But in all seriousness, I bought this slab that has a MS 64 $20 Saint in it, but there's a gauge in it that looks like it needs putty and spackle! And no amount of rubbing has helped much.
Or if the the scratch lotion doesn't do the trick you could use a buffer on the end of a dremmel. I have not tried, but i have thought about it. Your Risk!

It was only mentioned once and I think it was overlooked. The cost is not only $10 (per slab) but also, THE SHIPPING! So, if you are only doing 1 coin, it may not be worth it to you due to the cost of the return registered shipping

Talk about schmutz. For $10, get the coin a new pair of clothes.

Which raises the question...has anyone ever had a coin "dinged" while being broken out?

Thanks, but already have.
Unfortunately, I have a few deep "creases" that have gathered grime.

Won't mention which ones (services), but yes, a couple or three.
Works like a champ.

The compound actually works best on PCGS slabs, NGC slabs seem to never come totally clean and show polish lines much more than PCGS.
Is slab renew any better than PlastX? I've tried slab renew and I didn't think it worked any better.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Never. They are experts at using the bandsaw. No need to worry.

PlastX or Mcguires is just as good, a lot cheaper, and available at your local auto parts store or Wallmart.

merrily merrily merilly merilly,
scratches but a dream!

<< <i>You could also try Plastx, from McGuiar's at any auto store!
Works for me, and not expensive. Also does a great job on those clear plastic headlight covers!

Does PCGS offer a scratch resistant holder?
And for $2.50 you can get a scratch attracting holder!
