British trade dollar

Just back from the local coin club, one of the local vestpocket dealers had a 1902 TD for sale at $40.00, looked to be a AU-BU slider if was a Morgan or Peace dollar. I passed because I had no idea if the price was fair, low or high. What is the forums opinion?

If it was a 1902 B that was a decent price, if it was a 1902 C it was a screaming bargain.

OK, how to tell the difference between B and C? Is it a mint mark? If so where?

OK Googled and found it is a mint mark, still can't find where it is on the coin, Help

B (Bombay) is found in the middle fork of the trident

C (Calcutta) is at the base of Britannia

Thanks, since I have seen only this one coin, I think I will not follow-up at the next meeting. All is not lost, I learned something today! Thanks for the information.

They certainly were not making it easy on us collectors when they picked the mint mark positions were they.

I thought the mint mark for the Trade Dollar was on the center of fork portion of the trident- and yes it can be difficult to find
