The pedigree belongs to Larry Shepherd who is the current executive director of the ANA. Before Larry became the executive director he was a collector and dealer in nicely toned commemoratives and other toned coins.

  • Larry Shepherd is the ANA director. If the pedigree says shepard I have no idea who that person is.
  • I know who larry shepherd is but I was unaware there were coins with his pedigree on them. I was trying to find information regarding the collection and what it contains.

I've seen Larry's set of Proof Indians and they're truly awesome! I was supposed to image them when in Colorado to do some other imaging but didn't have time. The coins he owns/owned are superb.

Larry's mostly known for his 144pc Commem Set and duplicates he sold at Superior in the early 90's.

Besides Commems, your IHC, there's are some Barber series coins with the Shepherd Pedigree out there.

That's gotta be THE most awesome die crack I have ever seen on an IHC! And the color is mesmerizing to boot! But as mentioned in another thread, those new NGC holders sure are photography prohibitive with the white edgeview fingers overlapping the coin edge. Blah...

My apologies, I wish it were a die crack but alas it is a terrible scratch on the holder.

That is a WOW piece for sure.

As Mike has alluded to, Larry has an absolutely wonderful collection of colorful Gem Proof Indian Cents. Several years back we often butted heads on nice Proof Indian Cents in various auctions. I think it was at the Baltimore ANA in ?2003 that Larry suggested that we both pull around 12 or 15 of our better color Proof Indian Cents and display them at his table, which we did. Many of Larry's Proofs are mind blowing--he has an emerald green 1883 in an old NGC PR67BN holder that I am still attempting to pry away from him. It comes up in conversation every time we see each other!

His Commens went up for auction at Superior Galleries on 8/11/91. They are mind boggling. See if you can find a back copy of the auction catalogue.
  • He also dabbles into MONSTER TONED FRANKLINS !!!!!!image

We've got a toned proof merc with the larry shepherd pedigree.
I like the look and toning but, regrettably, there is a small carbon spot (or dust that was on the coin that caused a small spot in the toning).

Contemplating keeping it (we like the toning) but maybe selling it. Not sure what the rest of that collection had...

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
