Photography through slabs and is hard enough, but why did .....

... NGC make the worst possible slab for photography. What were they thinking. Did they think that collectors wouldn't want to image their coins? I know they did it for the edge lettering or lack there of, but they really messed up. I would never send them anything for grading until they get rid of those hideous tabs .........

Just looking at it makes me think it should move about since there is nothing supporting the lower half of the coin.
I imagine if you accidently dropped that slab that that fragment would start floating around in that slab.
Anybody crack one of these out yet to see how secure this is?

My gripe about slabbed coins has less to do with the edge holder and more to do with the fact that there is plastic in between the coin and my lens. Coins look better in a photo when they are not shot in a slab.
I like the NGC slabs okay for photography.. Biggest problem I have with them is the contour change from the front of the slab to the back - it can occasionally require relighting.
By far and away PCGS rattler holders are my favorite to photograph through.
<< <i>My reasons for not submitting to NGC doesnt have to do with the prongs. I seemed to have gotten used to seeing them. >>
I am not talking about seeing the tabs. I am talking about high end photography for the coin (without cracking it out). The Tabs cover part of the coin so the the coin can not be masked out of the slab unless you rebuild that part of the coin.
Very bad holders. I hope they change them.

How about a pic of the label

<< <i>that's because they were designed for coins
How about a pic of the label >>
That design need to meet up with a hammer
The label, too much extra work, I image way too many coins already
The coin is MS 66 BN and you guess the error.
<< <i>Can't see your photo but the tabs don't bother me. Someone suggested photoshopping them out of this photo and I just shrugged... >>
For what its worth, the tabs do bother me. Its kinda like photographing a painting thats behind a protective mesh screen.
I really see no reason for the depth of the tabs and can only imagine what one has to do to get the coin wedged in there.
I expect that NGC will modify it in the future.
