So whay are the new cents.............

So why are the new cents toning so quickly?

I was going thru some coins and found (2) 2009 Lincoln Cabin cents from my old coin club in Pittsburgh in a small envelope and they are already toning quite a bit.

So what gives, and does anyone here have any nice toners already? I was very shocked to see small rainbows already forming. I will try and take pics later.

  • Probably just oil.....dip them in copper cleaner and you won't have that problem...image

I have no scientific proof but would have to say that most of the cents made this year stared out with surface contamination from the mint. I know when I searched ten rolls of formative years cents I only found a few coins per roll that were not spotted already in new rolls from my bank.
Those spots are something on the surface of the metal that I think could easily accelerate the start the reactive process of toning.
