The typical payload on these is a bot virus. If you open it and do not have an updated virus scanner then you have joined the many email/ddos bots already out there.

These come in many flavors. FEDEX, UPS, USPS, etc... delivery attempt notices. Birthday, get well, etc... eCards. "My site has new pictures", "I have posted the vacation pictures", etc... weblinks.

A very healthy dose of paranoia when recieving any email you did not expect will save you hours of frustration later.

So to be clear on this...Never open, anything, from anyone,

even if you think you know who they are. Even better, turn

of the computer, pull the plug and be safe.image

Never turning on the computer is the safest. However if you recieve an email send an email or confirm by telephone before opening an attachment.

Looks like it's making the rounds again - just got one a few minutes ago.

Any virus software will handle these simple bugs. If you're barebacking without virus software, you'll pay in the end. --Jerry

I like the suggestion to never open a link from someone you don't know ....and then a link is attached to the message.

I get those UPS/FedEx emails frequently....I just ignore them.
