I was just sent a fake ebay email that was really good!

It said I needed to respond to a question from an ebay member and provided a link to an exact replica of the ebay sign-in page. I darn near signed in but decided not to. Now the link no longer works. Here's the email.

Get those almost daily. I see them on by Blackberry but my e-mail system on the computer sends them to the spam bucket. --Jerry

I may be old school, but I still read my email in plain text instead of HTML. Phishing links are simple to spot when you strip away the coding that makes them mimic eBay's format.

If that was the first, consider yourself fortunate, I've been receiving them for 6 or 7 years, and actually "bit" on the first one. I don't remember the exact circumstance but shortly after I logged on to the fake site, something that didn't seem right caused me to go back to ebay and do some checking, I was able to change my password before any damage was done.

I've got 4 or 5 of these over the years, not real hard to figure out for me since I've purchased on Ebay but never sold a thing.

Never, ever, click on anything in an email; not even if it's from someone you've known 20 years.

Or, like my wife, it's from a survey company she regularly works with and then only if you have good virus protection.

if in doubt - DON'T! If ebay wants to communicate with you

they'll send you a message in your "My Messages" & will

address you by your Name.

Back when they first started coming in, I would go to the site and fill in the boxes with the most obscene profanity I could think of about the scammer's mother. Then I'd submit the data and flush my cookies and be done with it.

I think they're more sophisticated now, and I no longer do that- I just forward them on to spoof@ebay.com.
