Hello...I am interested in Canadian Large Cents for my Father (b. Kingston) - can someone knowledgeable in this area
recommend a book on Canadian Large Cents and recommend any U.S. or I guess Canada dealers that specialize in
this area - thank you...I appreciate your assistance.
I see now that using search there are a lot of posts related to the subject so I will start there though will take any knowledge I can

To the dealer question first:
1. Lower grade large cents will be available from most dealers at any Canadian coin show.
2. If you are located in the U.S., then that doesn't help much. I find most (but certainly not all) circulated large cents offered for sale at U.S. shows to be over-graded or cleaned.
3. Most Canadian dealers do not have a web presence. One notable exception is found here. The company is run by Joe Iorio and I have successfully bought many coins from him. The website will give you a pretty good idea of current prices.
4. The best currently operating mail list dealer I have found is Dale Schaffer. You can e-mail him to get on his mailing list at dale.schaffer@cox.net
5. For higher grade large cents, I recommend Hugh Powell (Newcan Coins), Sandy Campbell (Proof Positive Coins), the auctions of Charles Moore, and the Heritage Auctions. Of these, only Heritage has a website (google Heritage coins).
Now literature:
1. Subscribe to Canadian Coin News (google it for their website). This biweekly newspaper has current price lists and many articles on Canadian coin collecting.
2. The best beginning refereance is still the Charlton Catalog of Canadian Coins, available from almost any Canadian dealer, or here.
3. If you get serious, I recommend that you join the Royal Canadian Numismatic Association (RCNA). They publish an excellent monthly journal on Canadian numismatics.
4. I have also done some writing on large cents. I have some books for sale over at the PCGS Worls Buy-Sell-Trade forum.
You should also check out the CCRS website and forum here.
Good luck and happy collecting!
