Thought some might find this interesting. Just read the following in an article out of Beckett Sports Monthly who interviewed Warren Friss, Topps GM. Should make for some interesting pulls in the 2010 Topps product:
The other exciting thing is going to be in our Topps Series 1, Series 2 and I think Updates and Highlights as well. We're launching the Topps Million Card Giveaway. You know how everyone says "my mother threw out all my cards?" Well, now Topps is giving back all those cards that your mother threw out.
We're buying back a million cards and they're going to be available in our packs through online codes. We're going to have at least one of every base card we've ever produced available. Every 1952 card, every 1953 card...at least one of everything. There are about 38,000 different base cards that we've done over the years and that doesn't quite get us to a million, so we have multiples of many of them. We're going to have some autograph cards, some Relic cards, some really interesting cards. We have some Willie Mays rookie cards, some that are autographed, so there's going to be a lot of great, interesting items.
The way it's going to work is that one in six packs of Topps Series 1 and Series 2, you will get a code and you'll take that code online and that will unlock your actual vintage card that you will be getting. It's not a digital card. You'll unlock it online but what you've won is an actual vintage card that Topps has bought back. You can get it delivered if you want, when you want. The other thing you'll be able to do is trade that card.
There's also going to be a sweepstakes where every time you enter a code you will be entered into a sweepstakes and the winner will get a complete 1952 Topps set.

<< <i>Sounds interesting, any idea on the release date of the 2010 Topps? >>
It mentioned the last week in January as a release date.
Wouldn't it be awesome to punch in your code and unlock one of these...

Dare to dream.
Actually, I'm crossing my fingers for a classic Wally Moon unibrow card.

Man, how cool would that be!
My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

<< <i>Did the article only say from 1952-current? With my luck I will get a 2009 card as my winnings.. >>
That's what it said. So 1951 would appear to be out of the mix, and yes, 2009 would be possible.
ever made by topps, so you might see 50 2009 topps sets in the mix. Still very cool to get a chance at something nice, all for under 2 bucks a pack!
Dimes: 54S, 53P, 50P, 49S, 45D+S, 44S, 43D, 41S, 40D+S, 39D+S, 38D+S, 37D+S, 36S, 35D+S, all 16-34's
Quarters: 52S, 47S, 46S, 40S, 39S, 38S, 37D+S, 36D+S, 35D, 34D, 32D+S
74 Topps: 37,38,46,47,48,138,151,193,210,214,223,241,256,264,268,277,289,316,435,552,570,577,592,602,610,654,655
1997 Finest silver: 115, 135, 139, 145, 310
1995 Ultra Gold Medallion Sets: Golden Prospects, HR Kings, On-Base Leaders, Power Plus, RBI Kings, Rising Stars
But their competition - FUTERA - has done one better in awarding 1/1 cards made for exclusively for on line game winners .
No commons or new stuff to win. But I guess if you have a lot of junk (like Topps) you have to get rid of it somehow.
Good grief.
To make it to 1 million they can use what's left of the 2008 & 2009 Topps baseball they still have in stock. I am really glad they are putting in vouchers. They don't want those wax boxes that sit on the shelves for a few years to be worth anything once the redemption expires!

Kiss me twice.....let's party.
The person that 'won' it could not afford the taxes on it and had to sell it.
Steve
Side note: 1 in 6 packs across the total run (Series 1 & 2 + Update) which means 6 million total packs of cards! How many cards in a pack? That’s a lot of cards!
Shane
A&G, Topps 206 and Topps 205 had buybacks as well - they put these in frames to make them "full-size". I lucked out and got a Gabby Street from Topps 205 as a NPN return.
The last couple years they also inserted buybacks in Heritage from the corresponding design set.
I'm sure there are others I'm not remembering.
BTW, the Wagner giveaway was a Wal-Mart exclusive promotion.

Hey... if that's a little girl with a $2500 auto, you can expect DrJ to sell her down the river. And/or make up a ridiculous bunch of yarns about her integrity.
Ha ha, just jokes DrJ, I'm terribly sorry about you being a stupid liar... all apologies.
Will they tell you what the condition of the redemption card will be ? Would any one want a hammered 1971 common ?
It might be better to just stick to buying off the board or the net.
Just saying ...
they need to generate a BUzz.....
should be interesting to see what condition 52 mantle they put in.....
ill buy a box....

Trent,
You are a kid and it is time for you to go to bed. Grow up you sad excuse for a man. And plese stop peddling Gretzky counterfeits on this board.
<< <i>Didn't they do this once before?
Steve >>
Yes, they did it in 1991 (40th anniversary) and 2001 (50th anniversary). In 1991's case, they also put in redemption cards for one of each complete Topps set from 1952-90, with one very lucky grand prize winner (at least we hope it was claimed) getting all those sets. Like I said before, why doesn't Topps save this for 2011, their 60th anniversary?

<< <i>daddymc, I love the respect for the Kurt Warner collection !!! >>
Thanks!
<< <i>I wonder if this will be a redemption program or a program more like the eTopps program. It mentions that you can take delivery when you want to otherwise it sounds like it sits in a "portfolio" online and you can keep it or trade from there. >>
Was thinking the same thing about the portfolio, and if you want the card delivered they will probably charge a fee. Sounds like a good idea, might be worth opening 6 packs.
