Happy Friday the 13th

For those of increasingly few of us who remember the comic strip Pogo - and who have sufficient remaining brain cells - may recall the ongoing gag about Friday the 13th. Gave Walt Kelly a preset strip each month and it was always fun to see what he'd do with it. Like the alligator (Albert?), I'm especially alarmed that Friday the 13th falls on a Friday this month! Here's my offering; a medal of Pius V (1566-1572) showing the pope casting out demons. This medal always makes me chuckle and I figure any day you're plagued by demons (real or metaphorical) can't be good. Feel free to add any other of the little round disks that might link (or that you can stretch) to the date.

Here's a coin that was obviously struck on Friday the 13th. The mint workers were clearly thinking about the weekend and lacked focus (insert appropriate groans) on their work. (A double struck solidus of the Byzantine emperor Focus)

  • That Pope's so smooth he doesn't even have to stand up to cast out demons...

Cardinal: "Your Holiness, this woman is possessed of the denizens of Hell!"

Pope: "Word? Hold up. I got this."

    BIZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZAPP!

Pope: "I'm hongry. What we got to grub on?"

    Scene.

All that from a medal. What, just me?
