What was the light shed on this basebal season?? A few things...
1)The notion that Yankee fans, or the Yankees, shouldn't feel proud or have the right to enjoy this World Series title because of the salary of their team. I am going to sum this one up as succinctly as I can...
If you are the best in the food additive business, what do they call you? If you are the best in any business or venture, what do they call you? They call you the New York Yankees of _________(fill in the blank)!!! How could you not be proud to be associated with such a distinction?? They freakin earned that moniker! Darn right they should feel civic pride!
Fans of other teams who get mad at the Yankees for having that distinction have two choices. 1)Follow a team that strives for that distinction, 2)Don't give the bum owners of your team one red cent, because they aren't giving you what YOU want!!! O.K. Three choices....3)continue to follow your team, but understand that it can only be for recreational purposes, because it isn't for producing the best baseball possible.
2) The Post Season Player. The notion that Ryan Howard, or any player is a 'post season' player. First, I gave the big boy a hard time on here. The dude is good, but if he truly were this clutch post season player, I think the World Series showed that what is often considered clutch or choking, is simply the typical ups and downs that elite baseball produces. It just takes time. Arod showed it too. Was this one of the best post seasons on record in MLB for Arod?? YES! How so if he was considered a choker, not a big game player. Really, it is was just a bad 20 game stretch. Happens a lot in MLB.
Oh, and did anybody check out Big papi's last three post season series??? SLG% of .294, .385, and .083. Yeah, I know he isn't the player he was before. But if he truly were clutch, don't you think he would call upon it at least a little, instead of being absolutely horrible(and much more horrible than even the diminished Big Papi)? It brought his career Post season OPS to .908, compared to his lifetime regular season of .922
As they say on Myth busters, this Myth is BUSTED!
3) Jim Rice. Now that he is in the HOF, the Hall of Fame threads on here are pretty darn boring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!! Am I right, or am I on drugs?
4)My attitude shift towards Jeter. It used to bug the heck out of me how people would call him a winner, better than Arod(during the Arod, Jeter, Nomar years), and would use all these adjectives that made me want to puke. But, after reading and debating on here, I got where they were coming from. How could they not feel that way! Look at what he gave them....yes, Post Season heroics too. I know I don't believe a post season player exists...but the November home run exists, and those moments leave a long lasting mark. Add in one heckuva an offensive SS, You gotta love the dude. Plus he seems pretty cool. Yeah, he may look like Jiminy Cricket, but he gets more trim than my landscaper.
5)Winpitcher, Grote. The true Wise Men of the boards. Yeah, I debate them....but they represent their team as well as anybody. I don't think I had to many beefs with Mets fans on here. Maybe because these two elder statesmen represent their team with wisdom and humility. Good guys. Too bad Reyes screwed my fantasy team this year. "Tanks for nothin."
6)The Pujols lovers. The Man is a God with the bat...very difficult to argue against that. But is there another player who is this good, and seems like such a good guy, that is not liked by so many on here? Fandango, please wipe your chin
7)Dusty Baker. In my best Gordon Ramsey, I can't believe, I am disguste voice...."Oh my God."
8) Perkdog. I would say this is the guy on the board voted, "Most likely to want to have a beer with." Especially if he brings the large breasted women with him. Good dude!
9)Storm888. FOr the love of God, you need to apply for the CEO job at Ebay when it comes up. You know more about that company and Paypal than they do. How you answer EVERY technical inquiry from posters is beyond belief!!!!!!!!!
10) Neifi Perez. Why him you ask? Do you realize that roughly 2/3 of his career plate appearances have come from the one or two hole in the lineup?? And you can't just blame Dusty Baker on this one. Do you realize how bad of a hitter he is? Yuck!
Mangers, let these old notions go!! If you were a basketball coach, would you give your WORST shooter the most shot attempts on your team?? Then why do it with your hitters???
These are some random thoughts. I hope you all enjoyed.
