I Was Outbid... by a landslide! 1859 One Dollar Gold MS62

This 1859 $1G just sold on E-bay for a whopping $910! I bid a little over $410, and expected to be outbid, but not by this amount. It sold recently at Heritage for $488. Heritage Auction Photos were not as flattering. For file size I am not sticking the big Heritage photos in the thread. Heritage

Do you have any predictions why the final bid reached so high?

I think the e-bay photos were much more forgiving than Heritage's so I think the e-bay winner (and underbidder) feel the coin is a strong upgrade candidate..... by 2 points even. My grey sheet is a little old, but $910 happens to be exactly the bid on an MS64.

Why don't these bidders find the stuff I've sold in the past?

I wonder what that discoloration in the field is? Big patch on the obverse, some on the reverse too.

  • 'Scuse me, I'm not fond of these coins, but I'm even less fond of coins with spots and gold with silvery toning. image I hope whoever bought it is REAL fond of it, 'cause my guess is he's gonna have it for a long long time.

It's nice indeed! The rattler helps.
    That is high, though.
