What was Coughlin thinking?

It was 3rd and goal to go at about the 10 yard line, you are up by 3 points late in the game so of
course you call a running play rather than try a pass in the end zone for a touchdown??????

At that distance a field goal is pretty much automatic anyway so it seems you have to go for the TD
and if you fail just kick the field goal. Maybe he was afraid Eli would throw an interception.

So the running play fails and the FG is kicked and then of course Rivers throws a long pass to tie the
game, do the extra point and the Giants lose again.

If the Giants had been successful passing into the end zone that would have put the game out of reach.

Oh well, now the Giants have a bye week and can think about the "what ifs" after losing four in a row.

That was a curious call, but on the other hand you don't want to jeopardize the three points -- which would force SD to score a touchdown. I'm sure it was motivated by not wanting a turnover in that situation.

I don't think that was as brain dead as what the Texans did to let the Colts challenge the Moats fumble at the 1 yard line. Letting the 2:00 warning come without quickly running another play was a really stupid decision that arguably was the difference in the game.
