Heads-up for all you eBay sellers

I knew there was something fishy going on when eBay, out of the kindness of their hearts, decided to give us five "free" listings every 30 days. What I found out the hard way, is that when you use one of the "free" listings, instead of paying an 8.75 percent fee on the first $25 of the final sale price of your item and 3.5 percent on anything over that, you pay 8.75 percent on the ENTIRE amount of the sale. The do cap the fee at $20, but on a $250 item where you would normally pay a 15 cent listing fee (if starting the auction at 99 cents) and a final value fee of $10.06, you actually wind up paying $20.00 image . They also don't give you a way to get around the "free" listing, so you have to make sure the items you are listing will sell for less than $25.00 for it to make any sense at all.

Therein lies the problem. I don't know about you, but my $250 items aren't going for anything close to that when the auction starts at $0.99. I'm willing to take a hit on higher fees if it means my $250 item won't go for $150.

Interesting. I have a few coins listed and Ebay says the final value fee will be like $40. I noticed that after listing. I hope the coins don't sell. The fees will put me in the hole on the coins. Ebay fees are really high!

I have been telling you guys, fleeceBay is trying very very hard to kill the online auction business and drive you elsewhere. Nobody believes me though.

I believe you but I don't think ebay knows it yet!

The free listing, with a maximum final value fee of $20, is a bargain for selling expensive items. I have a double eagle for sale using the free listing and will save quite a bit with the free listing plan.

FYI, before I understood the fee structure, I listed some inexpensive coins with the free listings. When I saw that I lost money compared to a normal listing, I asked ebay support to refund the difference and they did.

Umm, zeebob, why not just cancel your free listing auctions and relist under the normal fee structure? There is no penalty for doing so.

Apparently only if you DON'T use an ebay tool...unfortunately, I use turbo-lister so I'm assuming I can't take this offer. It would be nice since I have a couple large ticket items that need to go up soon.

That is correct. It won't kill you to manually list 5 items per month! :-)
