stevekstevek Posts: 29,038 ✭✭✭✭✭
I'm not sayin' it will happen but it could happen.

Wouldn't that be funny if it did?

I think our coming back to score a few and the unwillingness to put in Lidge to away some of the momentum you had early on in game 5.

I wouldn't call it a choke, as good as some of their players are there are some definite weakness on this team. Look at the tail end of the roster, the bullpen and some erratic starting pitching. This isn't a team without flaws, but it is a team that can be beat in a world series and not be labeled chokers. The AL wasn't all that strong this year. I wouldn't be surprised a bit if the Phils come back to win.

I do not have a dog in this fight, but I have to agree with the poster who said he hit a nerve.

I am for the Phillies in game 6, just because I would like to see it go 7.

Phillies finally win a game and Stevek has the Yanks choking.

    what a joke.

Does that mean the Sillies choked for three games straight?

    And for 80 plus years?

This World Series is a mirror of the ALCS. Angels won a slug fest game 5, and then back to NY to go down in flames in game 6...

    Bye Phillies!

Steve - There is no bigger sports fan than me...and after thinking about it for a second, yes, there is a factor that would make an "actual difference" to someone and how could I forget about that...if someone is gambling on the games, then yes the games do make a difference and possibly a big difference when the local bookie ruthlessly comes after ya for payment or ya bet the rent money with Bodog and lost.

Come on now Dan....even though the Yankees haven't won it all in awhile, it's "easy' to be "nice" when ya have a history of 29 championships and all kinds of other successes, Hall of Famers, etc, etc....Try being "nice" when the team ya root for has lost over 10,000 games, and the other team ya root for hasn't ever won a Super Bowl...perhaps someone such as the late great Mother Teresa could be nice under those sets of circumstances, but nobody will ever compare me to Mother Teresa. Hmmm...

Steve posts a reverse jinx thread and then turns around after a win and posts this.

Then Dan makes his own reverse jinx thread.

Tough call but in my unbiased opinion without having a horse in this race and a former gambler that attempted every trick in the book (and then some [including, but not limited to, the mythical 'Reverse Chickenbone Dance']), think Dan currently holds the trump card.

    Just sayin...

wouldn't give up 1 ring to have 2004 back. I think Red Sox fans highly over exaggerate what 2004 means to Yankee fans. Sure it hurt like hell..... In 2004. But, when you get to that point as much as the Yankees do it was only bound to happen. 2004 hardly ever enters my mind anymore.

Stevek your happiness would be higher if your team wins.

Also, and prolly more important you could come here and boast.

That alone makes your life different.

Unless of course nothing makes you happy, then I'd agree winning this series would not effect your life.

The only time I saw Pedro pitch in person was on 9/10/99 against the Yanks at Yankee Stadium.

I think he faced 28 batters that day, Hitting 1 and allowing 1 hit, he struck out 17 batters. (the hb was cs)

    The opposing pitcher? Andy Pettite.

Of course the NY Post claimed today that it happened on 9 11 99 and the opposing pitcher was Clemens

Don't these guys ever check the things they report as FACT?

Sure, that's the fun with sports...good adrenaline rush thrill entertainment...but I was alluding to it won't make our wives or girlfriends love us any more or less...it won't put an extra penny in our bank accounts..and things such as that. Hey, perhaps for some their sports is more important than those things mentioned but not to me.

But your comment about "happiness"...yea, I'll go along with that...yes a nice short term adrenaline rush happiness thrill...okay...but ya know what...win or lose I'll still be at work at 8:30am the next weekday. image

Well had you said those things earlier I would not have replied like I did.

All you said was that you life would not change, no mention of wives, no menton of money.

Just a blanket statement which you know have changed.

2004 will always be the battle flag for Sox fans. It was the first time that they EVER had a hook to hang the ol hat on. I have no problem with that. The Yankee have so many hooks to hang hats on that .... well .... 2004 is not a bother anymore. It really isn't ..... sure they choked a 3-0 lead in the ALCS. Dan honestly though you have to admit for SOME Yankee fans it will always disturb them, I know you hate the Sox almost as much as I hate the Yankees but it would have been much better being a Sox Hater if 2004 never happened. Pretty much like the Giants beating the Pats, I have many things to be proud of as a Pats fane but that G-Men Victory will ALWAYS leave a bad taste in my mouth- I think some Yankee fans will always feel the same way about 2004- maybe not you but some.

we're talking post season chokes - nothing even comes remotely close to the choke by the Yankees.

...I can tell it doesn't bother you. image

...but then again, when ya have all those championships, I can see whereby even a bad choke like that may not hurt so bad....

...as far as Phillies fans....the older fans still hurt over the "infamous" end of season collapse in 1964.
  • yankeeno7yankeeno7 Posts: 9,248 ✭✭✭
So the Yanks have 2 big chokes in 100 years LOL I agree that I would not trade one championship for either of those chokes - not even 2004. Did they suck? Sure they did. Being a Yankees fan has brought me SO MUCH MORE joy than disappointment. In sports, disappointments are bound to happen cuz that is some sort of law of averages I suppose. It just makes the next triumph that much more sweet! Im looking for a very sweet trimuph tonight!

Of course Yankees fans remember 2004 but at least for me, its not as painful to remember as it is joyful for Red Sox fan to remember. Does that make sense? Capisca?

And I thought it was CHOW? (just kidding, I do know its Ciao) image
  • In all honesty, winning one or two championships is as thrilling as winning five.

Think about it. Just because stevek had Jacqueline Bisset five times, and I only had her twice, there
both wonderful memories for both of us. Doesn't really matter who had it more, does it ?

However, 2004 was kind of like softparade about to climb in the sack with Erin Andrews, and then, swooooooooooooop,

Hey, are you "Frank from Gloucester"? (regular Yankee fan caller on WEEI).

OK Yankee fans -- enjoy #27 -- as much as I would like to see Pedro do well, he's probably going to get lit up worse than Petite will. Final will probably be 10-7, Yanks.
