Congrats to Yankees fans

Congrats on an excellent season and a World Series championship - Well played and well deserved.

Perhaps the two teams will meet again sometime in the future.

Phillies had an excellent season as well and just fell short to a better ballclub...and I'm proud of the Phillies and what they accomplished.

Hats off to the Yankees image

They (Yankees) have to win one more Steve. Sometimes that's the hardest one!

Nice thing to say. Yet I do wish I shared your complete confidence. I have this vague memory of my favorite team once being a single win from clinching a best-of-seven series...and yet it didn't quite pan out. So anything can happen. That said, I believe we'll be headed back to NYC with a good shot at taking one of the two, barring Mr. Lee not being his usually brilliant self tomorrow.

Happy for A-Rod to deliver now in the WS in back-to-back games, after such torrid prior series.

PS: The way Utley owns Sabathia's soul is just uncanny.

Believe me...I wish I was kidding on this one. I could go into a long post and explain why but there's no point and I'm not in the mood. In a nutshell, I've seen too many games and series to know what is inevitable...and frankly this is an easy, extremely easy call. It's over and I've already accepted it, and even though I'm disappointed, it still was fun to experience a Phillies -Yankees World Series with the hype and interesting conversation here and among personal friends and the Philly media, etc.

The Phillies have had a dam good run for some time, but of course all teams crap out sooner or later and the Phillies crapped out here...but it was one heckuva run the past two seasons with a championship last year, and getting to the big show this year against the most famous professional sports team in America.

No complaints...lots of fun and I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I'm already looking forward to next season.

  • Brad Effing Lidge should be on the phone with his real estate agent today. Get out of town. Just quit.

The Phils may win tonight but cannot take two in NY.

Congrats to the Yankees and their fans.

How quickly they turn... Lidge GOT you the Trophy last season! Without him and 48 straight saves, the Phils would've been on the outside looking in, but then again, Philly's all about, "What have you done for me lately."

On a side note, as a Yankees fan, I'm not ready to crack the champagne. Burnett (on three days rest) against Lee is not a given, then Pettitte (on three days rest) is a question mark and if there's a Game 7, it's C.C. on 3 days rest and he looked a little susceptible last night although he gutted it out.

I, too, conceede.... it's just a tough decision to see if I want the yanks to clinch on phillies turf or back in their masouleum (masoleum?).... yanks definitely answered every question this post season...

You're down, but not out!! Recall the Red Sox - Yankees ALCS in 2004. The Yankees were up 2-0 and then crushed the Red Sox in Fenwy 19-8 to go up 3-0. Then the Red Sox won the next 8 games in a row, including the last 2 in the ALCS in Yankee Stadium.

Save your congrats for the moment you are totally out. Yesterday's game has nothing to do with today's game. You gotta hang with your team till the last dog dies.

The guy was in trouble all season. The team should have recognized that and either picked up a better closer or worked another reliever into the role.

You're right except Charlie did try other pitchers in that role and it wasn't successful. Starters can sometimes work their way out of problems as the season progresses, but ya rarely see closers do that...if they stink early they usually stink the whole season. I think based on how great Lidge was last season, Charlie stayed with him hoping for the best and I can't fault Charlie too much for that, it just didn't work out. And ya hoped the bats would get us over the top against the Yankees, but too many solo home runs and not enough sustained rallies to overcome a good ballclub like the Yankees who have a lot of dam good hitters as well. And the checkmate to all this is Rivera. Under these circumstances, there's just no way the Phils are gonna win 3 straight games.

Don't even think of any further requests about removing the Phillies sigline until the final out of the final 2009 game...

Steve K's alleged concession does not award the series to the Yankees. They still have to play Game 5, and possibley Game 6 and Game 7.

.....and here I thought I'd be getting requests for sigline extensions.....

....anyone wishing to keep their Phillies sigline permanently, may do so.....

.....you can even pass it on to your children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, if they ever post here at CU.
