H R Mossop collection of Celtic Coins and other English Hammered Coins. 616 lots, 14 plates in the catalogue. This was the largest collection of ancient British in private hands at the time and was sold post mortem. Mossop is best known for his study of the Lincoln Mint published in 1970.

Lot 446 was a pair of Watford type Stephen pennies from Norwich, Alfward which is this ticket, and the other was by Eustace, both about fine, the first with a trace of a crack, both very rare moneyers. The estimate was £70-100, but I don't have the LPR

It's not immediately obvious who wrote the ticket but there are clearly two different styles of writing. I thought Spink may have bought the lot at the sale and subsequently listed it in the Circular, but there is no matching description in any issue over the next 12 months. Is there anything on the back of the ticket or was there another with the coin? I suppose the easiest way to tie it down is to say when you bought it, if it came from Spink.

Nothing on the back. I bought the coin from Allen Berman in 2004. The tag was from him.

The Glendining reference looks as if it is underneath that written in red and so should be by a Spink employee. Is the red handwriting Allen Berman's, a previous collector, or don't you know?
