Goldberg aution results

Wathing the Goldberg auctions on-line this afternoon looks like the ancients are doing pretty well. Maybe the recession really is over.

    Not surprisingly, gold was hot.

Highlights? No bidding for now for me regardless. I do like watching though not as much fun as being in the center of action.

No highlights that I noted, just watched about 30-40 lots yesterday of the ancients and all seemed above high bid, with quite a few 3-4 times high bid. I'm watching the regular world lots now and hoping to get a few lots won.

I was in the "center of the action" on a partial PCGS graded Canada 1953 PL set.

    Estimate was $1,200-$1,500. I bid $2,300.

    It went for over $4,000.

Heck, I didn't even make the winning bleed for Pete's sake image

No,no- the kids and the cat are all right honey.
It's just that I got my PCGS grades.

I went in for one lot and got it - the 1906 Canada cent - NGC 65 red. It looks like a nice coin and 1906 is a very tough year in high grade. As a dealer once told me, it must have been a rough voyage when the Royal Mint shipped the 1906 cents to Canada.

    Some examples:
    Bavaria 1833 Taler Customs Union MS62 - est. 275-325 hammer $575
    Prussia 1913 A 2 Mk. Defeat fof Napolean MS66 - est. 50-75 hammer $460
    G.B. 1788 P1005 restrike 1/2 P PF66 BN est. 300-400 hammer $825

No, I didn't win any of those, thats near double retail, more in the case of the 2 mark. So far just one German piece, a GB raw penny, and 2 trade dollars are all I have won. And the good stuff I really wanted, that I bid double estimate on, got blown out early.

I'm not even going to wait for the Swiss, think I'll just take the wife out to dinner.

I bid on four pieces and successful on 2 of them.

The craziest price that I followed was the Brabant Mouton d'or .... Hammered @ $6250 ..... Great coin but crazy high price!!!

It says realized $60,000, don't know if it really sold or not though.
