I couldn't find any overly obvious red flags. What always concerns me, though, is a 1st time seller (all 27 feedbacks are as a buyer) that uses the phrase "I HAVE HAD THIS CARD IN MY COLLECTION". Why is it necessary to tell anyone this info? It has the same undertone as the phrase "MY DEAD UNCLE LEFT ME THE CARD".
The seller's ID is a bit bothersome too. Seems like a young seller that's been on a heavy buying spree after a 7 month hiatus. Maybe trying to get some fast cash to pay for some of it now.
Who knows? I hope everything goes smoothly for the buyer of that '53 Mantle. Not a bad price @ $560.01.
What causes you to believe this? As Kirk stated, it looks nice for a 3, but could be due to a crease or wrinkle. With the background, can't tell if the edges are frosted.
All these questionable cards in questionable PSA holders has made me think twice about purchasing a PSA slabbed card. I feel that unless I can be 100% sure that a slab has not been tampered with I cannot purchase that card. It seems there is a real issue with PSA slabs right now and I just cannot spend good money and possible get ripped off. PSA needs to listen to its customers here and make some changes to the slab that shows evidense of tampering.
I am 100% certain this case was cracked. Do the edges look frosty?

Since there might be almost 10-million slabbed cards in circulation - and it took almost 20-years to hit that number - a holder redesign will have about
ZERO
effect on the problem.

Well that's not really true.
ONE way would be you could trust cards in the new holders.
As it is now, if you want a PSA card, you're always taking some risk.

Yeah, I gotta watch out for that shady '87 Topps Jim Beattie...
I agree..new holders would have an effect on NEWER slabs being more trustworthy. PSA could also offer a reholder service for the new slabs at a few bux each and make a fortune......FORTUNE!!!! Did ya hear that PSA? A new money maker.....new slabs should be arriving soon after that statement
"...PSA could also offer a reholder service for the new slabs at a few bux each and make a fortune......"

Since the slabs are not free AND workers have to be paid to slab cards, I don't see how the "fortune" is made.
Especially, since almost NOBODY is going to pay to have their cards reslabbed.
ANY holder - maybe not the doorstops at Beckett - is easily tampered, and can be counterfeited. A new PSA holder would be no exception.

While it is NOT OK to cheat folks who did not do their homework, at least some due diligence needs to be done by folks who are going to participate in ANY hobby.
I really do NOT want to pay a few dollars more to get a card graded so that folks who don't do their own DD can "feel" secure.
And, "feel" would be the right word.
A new holder will likely have NO impact on previously slabbed cards.
Does anybody really think folks are going to reslab millions of cards?
How long would it take for sophisticated crooks to figure out how to tamper/counterfeit the new holders? Not long, I suspect.
The benefit, if it ever showed itself, would be seen a decade or more down the road. THAT delivers us NO help NOW.

This is why PSA should come out with a better tamper proof slab.....How many threads on ANY collecting site do you see someone questioning a BGS graded card?

After looking closer, the top and sides do appear frosty

<< <i>Bottom line here is PSA needs to make new holders NON TAMPER PROOF sort of like Becketts. >>
Wouldn't non tamper proof mean people could get into them? lol
They need super tamper allowable cases so we can rest easier thinking we got a great deal
The Mantle slab looks like it has been tampered.

LOL yeah sorry

So this one is no deal as it is already around that mark.
Too much downside for me.
I have no idea if it is real or a reprint.
Steve
It's actually a pretty good idea to go after low/mid grade cards. Most buyers wouldn't suspect a scam for a lower end card.

The grading is sometimes questioned.
Their slabs are kinda neat looking if you only have a few, but
they are too big, I think, if you have TONS of cards.
