Anyone done business with ebay ID: srm128

What was your experience ordering from him/her. Did you buy low-end or hi-end items?

I've got my eye on his currently listed '52 Mantle so besides any feedback on doing business with him/her, it would be great to get PoppaJ and other Mantle aficionado's thoughts on this particular Mantle. Look 100% legit? likes/dislikes? open questions? etc.

  • Never done business with the seller, but that is one nicely centered Mantle. I would try to get his price down a bit as the Mathews is was O/C for my liking in the 3 grade.

    .....

The Mantle may have a problem back.

    The Mathews is JUNK.

Scans are cropped too tight for me.

    No back scans. Why?

I saw that Storm, thanks. Looks like he has dabbled in coins and trucks in the past. Most of the feedback seems to apply to vehicles of one kind or another. I'm always amazed at sellers not including scans on a card like this. Seriously, an extra $0.75 for extra large (& additional) scans is going to break the bank? Ridiculous. Of course, maybe there's something he doesn't want me to see on the back. image

I have an email into him to ask for extra pics.

If you check VCP the exact Mantle card just sold in Huggins auction 9/30/09 for $13,200. At $14,500 BIN for the Mantle and Mathews lets just say it's an odd way to make a living. Good thing he has certs blocked to keep scammers away.

Yeah I'd want to see a scan of the back preferably with him holding it with that days paper.

For that kind of dough he better jump thru whatever hoops a potential buyer asks.

    Good for you.

If you look at the edges on the raw mantle he listed earlier they just don't look right.

I guess I'm jaded and I think scam first now image

Jim, do you have a link to that raw Mantle?

I'm overly suspicious right now, I also have a bad experience in the works (edit to add not with this seller)

    completed raw 52 mantle

I'm completely uneducated on 52 topps (and much else!) but the top and bottom just don't look straight to me.

Don't pass on a 52 mantle because of my post, but look at the card and see if you see what I think I do

    Hi Dan,

I agree with Storm's assessments, including the repeat deceptiveness of this seller as shown in the toolhaus report. Something just doesn't smell right. I find it odd, even if some think it's okay, that a seller would not disclose the cert numbers when selling such a high dollar card. Nothing should be hidden; NOTHING! There should be pictures galore! Front, back, corners and edges should all be in plain view with large clear pictures/scans.

The addition of the Mathews card sealed the deal for me. It's almost laughable!

If someone is going to buy a '52 Mantle in a PSA 4, 5 or 6 .... please pay the price and buy it from someone you can trust. If you're going to fork over $15,000 or more, why would you take a chance? The buyers that usually get burnt by these deals are the ones that think they're getting the buy-of-a-lifetime. Ain't gonna happen with a '52 Mantle .... EVER! Heck, I'd buy THIS ONE from Levi Bleam (707) before I'd even consider the one srm128 has.

I've never had any transactions with srm128 .... and most likely never will.

Hope you find a nice '52 Mantle someday though!

I have looked at that one. The only thing on that one is the chunk out of Mickey's neck. But, centering-wise, that is a really nice PSA 5. I agree with your point about not falling for a "buy of a lifetime" on a card like this. Too many fakes and dishonest sellers out there.

Another really nice PSA 5 from Kityoungcards down in San Diego. At least he's willing to show the card personally and do a deal face to face. Anybody done business with kityoungcards or know him personally?

I've had great experiences with Kit, both selling and buying. I personally don't care for the tilt on this particular card, but that's just me.

This card is probably going to end up somewhere in the neighborhood of $17,000, give or take $500. If it does, an $18,000 offer on Levi's card would be an even better buy.... JMHO

Final sales price was 11,750 for both. Either he really, really needed the money after buying less than a month ago from H&S, or something is fishy here.

Kit Young is a long-time major dealer. I would have no worry that he actually has the card he has listed.

There's a thread now on Net54's main board entitled Ebay Fraud from the winner of the Mantle Mathews lot. Yes he did, and of course he did.

I am shocked that any of the brilliant folks over there would
fall for a scam like that one.

What with the folks here being dumber than potholes, it never
surprises me when we get burned.

    Hot Tip:

If you get scorched and ask PayPal for help, wait until they do their
thing b4 you complain directly to your credit card company.

The guy that got burned has only 6 posts - they can claim he isn't one of "them" image

But what a classic scam. Steal a Mantle scan, white out the serial # so no one can easily connect it to the H&S auction, collect your dough, "fix" the box so it looks like it's been tampered with - not enough so the UPS guy would realize it on pickup, but enough so cards could potentially fit through. When claim is filed, the whole mess can be put on UPS, can't it?

Looks like the guy mostly deals in modern stuff (A&G, etc) and sells a little bit of everything else. Probably knows very little about vintage cards, but has just enough knowledge to be dangerous.

Honestly, you look at the guy's selling history and there's no way he owns these cards. And who the hell sells a '52 Mantle AND a Matthews as a "package deal"? Where's the gain in that, other than to milk a little more $ out of a scam?

It also seems obvious that the scans of the 2 cards were made by different scanners, another giveaway.

I'm glad the story has a happy ending, but this $hitbag needs a slapdown. I hope Colt nails the guy to the wall and shows no mercy.
