I am thinking of selling my Registry Set?!

I am thinking of selling my Lincoln Registry set. I am wondering if it is better to cosign to someone, or sell outright. Do dealers who cosign collections take a % or buy the collection from you and sell the coins themselves?

I am thinking of selling this set, to start a type collection of only key dates.

Check out my signature to go to my Registry Set if you prefer.

Thanks, Brian

  • It depends on the dealer...from what I've seen, the bigger ones often just take a percentage, and the smaller ones tend to buy it outright. You will usually get more money if you sell it outright yourself, but you can't be guaranteed of receiving all the money for it all at once.

With that said, I am interested in quite a few coins in your set, and if you'd be interested in selling them to me, I'd greatly appreciate it. image

I agree with MH. Have you thought about posting something on the BST Forum? You might even get some trade offers with coins you would need for your type set. Not that I have any trades but would be interested in making a few offers on coins in your RS. Dave

Thanks for the input Gentlemen. I just started getting input from Dealers a couple of days ago, so I am still undecided on how to sell these. But I am leaning towards selling outright.

Anybody else have any advice to add?

    Thanks Brian
  • If you decide to do it piece by piece let me know, you have a few that I could use to upgrade my set with too.

How much are you looking for?

One thing you might want to do is pick up the 1949 and 1954 (atleast a 65RD). D.Lawrence is selling a W.Wallace short set from 34 to 58. Might be a nice way to market the collection.

  • What I would do is look at eBay, figure on a price for each coin, then list them on the B/S/T board. Then I would sell off the leftovers on eBay. You can see there is demand here on these forums at some price.

I, or someone else, could do this for you for a small percentage. Or you could sell to the board what they want then consign the rest to an eBay seller.

I agree with Carl. You can proably sell some of the higher priced coins on the boards and then take all of the rest and sell them as a group.

Well, I have decided to keep my collection to the disapointment of many of you, I imagine. I have been flooded with offers for the collection but I just cant do it. I hope I didnt get anyone to excited.

I am going to stick with it and hopefully be 100% complete one day.
I thank everyone for the advice that was given, and have gotten to know some of you a little better in the process.

    Thanks Brian

Yes, I was! Man, I was excited to have a load of new coins to add to the collection, only to have my hopes dashed! Haha, oh well. (No offense taken.)

Sorry about that Mastahanky, I never commited to anyone that I was going to sell, I was thinking about it and trying to get advice. Sorry if I got your hopes up in any way. Now you will just have to compete with me! Just joking around. Thanks for your interest!

  • In actuality, I'm kind of glad you chose not to sell, because I couldn't really afford to buy anything you planned on unloading at the moment. If you chose to sell, I would have had to postpone such other optional expentitures such as my power bill, etc. image
