ANOTHER con artist?? Looks like someone got conned out of $1,600! WHEN WILL THIS STOP!?!?!

Hello all....I was thinking of bidding on a 1933 Goudey Sport Kings for my new collection. It is a GAI card which means I might can get it on the cheap. Now for the twist.......the cert # on the back of the card does NOT match what the card is when I punch it into GAI's website....is that something for me to be concerned with?

I thought the GAI flip goes all the way around the top? I asked the seller for a scan of the top, but I am running out of time....is it possible GAI made a mistake?

The wrong number could be a mechanical error.

There appear to be tool marks on the slab.

    I would pass.

At this point I'd stay away from anything GAI
If you compare it to the SGC 1.5 on now, the top border looks same size, but the bottom border looks much shorter
    Likely trimmed IMO
  • 3 things bother me about that card.

    1) of all of the low # certs I have in GAI slabs or cracked out, There was no bar code on the back (I have 101XXXXX and 102XXXXX slabs)
    2) The GAI symbol on the back of mine is the same size as the front.
    3) The cert number on mine are under the symbol.

I'm a firm believer that old GAI slabs can be had for great discounts and make perfect crack and resubmit candidates. That could very well be a legitimate one. I personally wouldn't take a chance on it...

Edit to add: Yes the labels do flip up around the top, whereby you should have the card name and grade on that 1/4 inch top.

I always thought the old flips were the best, and this one will likely end around a PSA 5 price, but I don't like the fact the cert # shows a totally different player!

"...Looks like someone got conned out of $1,600!..."

    The evidence is VERY light.

The wrong number is pretty near being exculpatory.

Why would a crook use a flip with the wrong number on it?

It's more likely a mechancial error. It happens often enough at all TPGs.

    .............

The card does look a little small, tho.

that sucks. keeps happening over and over with little to do about it. just shows that you gotta do your homework and know who you are buying from.
